The Lola T153 Sunoco Special was constructed by Lola Cars LTD. of Huntingdon, England. It was powered by a double overhead cam Ford V-8 that displaced 161.703 and fitted with a Schwitzer turbocharger. It had a 96.25-inch wheelbase and rode on Goodyear tires.

At the 1970 Indianapolis 500, Mark Donohue drove the #66 to a 2nd place finish. The following year, he placed 19th with the #68 Sunoco Special at the Trenton 200. Also that year, he finished 20th at Indy.

Honda, Acura Racers Claim Titles at SCCA Runoffs
 Honda and Acura racers won four Sports Car Club of America national titles and claimed a 1-2 finish in the inaugural B-Spec category, run as a exhibition class, in last weekend's SCCA National Championship Runoffs at Road America. IndyCar – Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix
Lotus driver Simona de Silvestro (#78 – Lotus HVM Racing) scored her best season finish in Sunday's Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix. After starting at the back of the field because of an engine change penalty, she'd worked her way up to 13th position by the time the checker flag flew.
