Opel Insignia: Top marks for durability

Top prize for Insignia in German used car ranking

The Opel Insignia is the best used car in the middle-class vehicle §egmènt, according to a survey conducted by the German used car watchdog, 'GTÜ' (The Association for Technical Supervision), and published at the Frankfurt International Motorshow. The 2012 survey of used cars confirms that the Insignia has the top spot in terms of quality among used cars aged between one and three years. The survey is designed to measure and rank the durability of used cars.

The GTÜ 2012 survey is based on a sample of more than five million general inspections carried out on more than two-hundred-and-forty different brands during the last two years. The end result is a ranking where the pros and cons of all the vehicles are clearly listed. The Opel/Vauxhall Insignia comes at on top in all categories.

The chief of the 'GTÜ', Rainer de Biasi, said: 'The high quality workmanship in the Insignia really came to the fore during general inspections.' He added: 'The Insignia is a newcomer in the used car market but is clearly the winner of its middle-class §egmènt.' The engines of the Opel/Vauxhall Insignia have now been much improved wîth fuel efficiency in mind. The 1.4 liter Turbo ecoFLEX Insignia gasoline engine is the most economical in the entire middle-class §egmènt. The modern engine boasts a performance of 103 kW/140 hp. The 1.4 l engine only consumes 5.7 l on a journey of 100 kms. That is two liters less than its predecessor 1.8 l suction engine that also performed 140 hp. CO2 emissions are reduced accordingly. They have been cut by 45g/km to 134g/km. The diesel range is complimented wîth a new and more efficient 2.0 CDTI ecoFLEX engine that offers 118kW/160hp. The engine delivers a mere 115g/km of CO2 emissions and consumes 4.3 liters on a journey of 100 kilometers.
