2012 Audi Q5

2012 Audi Q5
Distinctive changes promise to maintain the 2012 Audi Q5 in its position as a leader among luxury crossover vehicles. The Audi Q5 3.2 quattro models for 2012 offer the S line® package with key exclusives such as S line badging, the iconic Audi Singleframe® grille with vertical chrome accents, S line specific front and rear bumpers, S line interior doorsills and retractable, highpressure headlight washers.A choice of two engine sizes — the award-winning 2.0 TFSI® turbocharged direct
injection and the agile 3.2 FSI® — provide the power and engineering craftsmanship that one expects from Audi. The 2.0T engine generates 211 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque at 4,300 and 1,500 rpm respectively, and the 3.2 liter puts out 270 hp and 243 lb-ft of torque at 6,500 and 3,000 rpm. Both power plants feature the Audi valvelift system, designed for increased power and torque while reducing fuel consumption.

2012 Audi Q5
The Audi Q5 2.0T quattro® utilizes an eight-speed automatic transmission with
Tiptronic®, while the 3.2 liter is mated to a six-speed automatic with Tiptronic. Both transmissions feature the dynamic sport shift program. Power is translated to the road via quattro permanent all-wheel drive to help ensure better grip on dry road surfaces and more confidence on slippery roads.

2012 Audi Q5Many customers have cited the exterior design of the Audi Q5 as a primary purchase
reason for choosing it over competitors in its segment. Low overhangs that lead to
strong fender arches give the Audi Q5 a powerful stance. The sleek roofline and
integrated body rails, add to the visual appeal of the vehicle and assist in maintaining a low drag coefficient of 0.33, which improves fuel economy and reduces wind noise. The Audi Q5 is constructed using Audi's renowned ASF® technology that helps provide enhanced stability and also lightens the vehicle considerably. The distinctive Audi Singleframe grille and unmistakable LED daytime running lights, as well as the clean, dynamic lines, give the Q5 a design that looks as nimble as it handles.

The interior wood inlays on the door panels, center console and passenger dashboard
evoke an inviting warmth. Components are well executed throughout the interior, with easy-to-read instrumentation, and easy-to-reach controls. The center console houses technologies for which Audi has built a reputation, with the Q5 offering Audi MMI®, available Audi MMI Navigation plus and Audi music interface. Interior space is abundant thanks to the long wheel-base of the Q5. Leather seating surfaces and available Milano leather seating surfaces make the Audi Q5 a place where drivers and passengers enjoy spending time.

Safety in the Audi Q5 is further enhanced in a number of ways, including both driver and front passenger advanced dual-stage airbag supplemental restraints, front seat-mounted side thorax airbag supplemental restraints (again for both driver and front passenger), plus Sideguard® head curtain airbags for both rows of seats. Driver assistance systems such as available Audi side assist and Electronic Stability Control can help drivers navigate the road.

The Audi Q5 and Audi Q5 hybrid quattro

2012 Audi Q5
The Q5 combines the dynamics of a sporty sedan with a highly variable interior space. The mid-sized SÚV is the ideal companion for active people at any stage of life.2012 Audi Q5
Body and interior
With a height of 1.65 meters (5.41 ft), the 4.63 meter (15.19 ft) Q5 is very low-slung for an SÚV. It features sporty proportions and an elegant, muscular design. There are three versions available for the add-on body parts; Audi also offers attractive styling packages. The tailgate, which wraps around the C-pillars, is made of lightweight aluminum, as is the engine hood. The body includes a large proportion of high-strength and ultra-high-strength steels.

2012 Audi Q5
Interior space is generous, and the luggage compartment's base capacity of 540 liters (19.07 cubic ft) can be increased to 1,560 liters (55.09 cubic ft) by folding down the rear seat backs. Audi also offers an optional rear bench seat, which can be moved by 100 millimeters (3.94 in) and features a load-through hatch. The front passenger's seat is available with an optional folding seat back. The front seats can optionally be adjusted, heated and cooled electrically.

2012 Audi Q5Drive
Audi offers the Q5 with a choice of six engines: three gasoline engines and three TDI units. All engines are direct injection units; five of them are turbocharged. The torque of the gasoline engines is further boosted by the Audi valvelift system, which switches the valve lift in two stages. Regardless of the engine variant, the Q5 recovers energy during braking; the four-cylinder models with manual transmission also come standard with the start-stop system and a gear-change indicator.

Engine lineup:

2.0 TFSI quattro with 132 kW (180 hp)
2.0 TFSI quattro with 155 kW (211 hp)
3.2 FSI quattro with 199 kW (270 hp)
2.0 TDI quattro with 105 kW (143 hp)
2.0 TDI quattro with 125 kW (170 hp)
3.0 TDI quattro with 176 kW (240 hp)
Chassis
The chassis also contributes to the sporty character of the Audi Q5. The five-link front suspension and the trapezoidal-link rear suspension consist largely of aluminum components; the large brakes ensure rapid deceleration. The optional Audi drive select system manages the engine's throttle response, the steering characteristic and the shift points of S tronic. Two components that can be combined are adaptive damper control and dynamic steering.

The Audi Q5 also holds its own in rough terrain: the electronic stabilization program (ESP) and the anti-lock brake system (ABS) both have an offroad mode. The ESP features an additional function for road driving: If a roof rack is mounted, thus raising the center of gravity, the system intervenes somewhat sooner at the limit of handling.

Equipment
On request, Audi equips the Q5 with high-tech systems typical of the full-size category. Audi lane assist helps to keep in lane, while Audi side assist warns of possible hazards when changing lanes. The adaptive cruise control system maintains the desired interval between the performance SÚV and the vehicle ahead. An attractive range of multimedia modules is also available, ranging from the hard drive-based MMI navigation plus navigation system to a sound system from Bang & Olufsen.

The Audi Q5 hybrid quattro
Rounding out the Q5 family is the Q5 hybrid quattro, with deliveries scheduled to begin late this year. The performance SÚV is the first full hybrid in the B premium segment to be offered anywhere in the world with lithium-ion batteries standard.

Designed as a parallel hybrid, the Audi Q5 hybrid quattro combines the performance of a six-cylinder model with the fuel economy of a four-cylinder version. Power is provided by a 2.0 TFSI with 155 kW (211 hp) and an electric motor with up to 40 kW (54 hp) and 210 Nm (154.89 lb-ft) of torque. System output is 180 kW (245 hp).

2012 Audi Q5The Audi Q5 hybrid reaches 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 7.1 seconds from a standing start and has a top speed of 225 km/h (139.81 mph). At a constant speed of 60 km/h (37.28 mph), it has a purely electric range of up to three kilometers (1.86 miles), and its top speed of 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in electric mode also sets standards. ( posted on conceptcarz.com) Average fuel consumption is 6.9 liters per 100 km (34.09 ÚS mpg), corresponding to CO2 emissions of 159 grams per km (255.89 g/mile).

The performance SÚV can operate in one of five drive modes: Driving with the combustion engine alone, with the electric drive alone or in hybrid mode is possible, as are recuperation and boosting. The driver can choose between three modes. The EV characteristic map gives priority to the electric drive in the city; the D mode controls both the engine and the electric motor for optimal consumption; and the S mode is designed for a sporty driving style.

An extensively modified eight-speed tiptronic serves the power transmission, without the aid of a torque converter. Instead there is the disc-shaped electric motor, which is combined with a multi-plate clutch. It connects and disconnects the electric motor and the TFSI precisely, gently and quickly in every situation.

A lithium-ion battery system, weighing a mere 36.7 kg (80.91 lb), serves as the energy store for the electric motor. The compact unit beneath the cargo floor hardly reduces luggage space at all. The battery provides 1.3 kWh of nominal energy and 39 kW of power. Two different methods are used to air-cool the battery, depending on need: with air from the passenger compartment or with air from a cooling circuit coupled to the main automatic air conditioning system.

With a curb weight of just 1,910 kg (4,210.83 lb), the Audi Q5 hybrid quattro is the lightest hybrid SÚV on the global market. Its hybrid components weigh less than 130 kilograms (286.60 lb).

Audi most successful premium brand in all-wheel drive segment

• 437,792 automobiles with quattro drive produced in 2010

• Broadest all-wheel drive model lineup in premium segment

• Audi A4 and Audi A8 '2011 All-wheel Drive Cars of the Year'

2012 Audi Q5Audi once again sold more automobiles with all-wheel drive than any other premium manufacturer. The brand with the four rings produced 437,792 vehicles with quattro drive last year. In the year in which Audi celebrated '30 years of quattro,' around 38 percent of all cars produced worldwide were equipped with the all-wheel drive technology. With 74,262 new car registrations for all-wheel drive models, Audi also topped the competition in Germany.

The most popular Audi model with quattro drive in 2010 was the Audi Q5, 155,025 units of which were built. In the months ahead, the brand will further expand its all-wheel drive lineup in the SÚV segment with the Audi Q5 hybrid quattro and the compact Q3. But it is not just SÚV drivers who are turning to quattro; the all-wheel drive technology is a popular choice of Audi customers for all other model lines as well. From the Audi A3 to the A8, nearly one quarter of the automobiles produced in 2010 had quattro on board.

'quattro is one of the Audi brand's greatest success stories, and today we are writing what may well be its most exciting chapter,' says Peter Schwarzenbauer, Member of the Board of Management for Marketing and Sales at AÚDI AG. 'As we move down the road toward electric mobility, we see entirely new possibilities for quattro technology. The electric quattro of the future will be even more agile, safer and – above all – more efficient,' adds Schwarzenbauer.

Audi customers today can choose from more than 130 quattro model variants, taking all the different body types, engine versions and transmission options into account. Audi thus offers by far the widest range of all-wheel drive models in the premium segment. There are also a number of technical solutions for delivering power to all four wheels. Behind the successful quattro principle are four different technologies, which Audi is constantly refining in order to build the ideal all-wheel drive system for each vehicle concept. The latest evolutionary stage of the quattro system featuring a crown-gear center differential and torque vectoring is available in the Audi RS 5, A7 Sportback and the new A6.

The quattro drive system also recorded yet another success in the voting for the '2011 All-wheel Drive Car of the Year.' As in 2010, more than 119,000 readers of the trade journal Auto Bild Allrad chose the Audi A4 ('All-wheel drive cars from €25,000 to 40,000') and the A8 ('All-wheel drive cars over €40,000') as the winners of their respective classes. This marks the sixth year in a row that Audi has had two winners in this competition. Three second-place finishes round out the brand's outstanding results this year. The readers of Auto Bild Allrad had a total of 136 vehicles in nine categories from which to choose. Dr. Hans-Peter Kleebinder, Head of Marketing Germany, accepted the coveted awards on behalf of Audi in Frankfurt this evening.
