1939 Ford Half-Ton

1939 Ford Half-Ton 1939 Ford Half-Ton 1939 Ford Half-Ton This Ford half-ton pickup truck spent most of its working life in Connecticut, then came to Ohio, where, according to the current owner, it was stored in a damp pole building and became a home to raccoons and mice.

The current owner acquired it in 2003 and began a total off-frame restoration that took two years. Along the way a few 'improvements' were made, including 15-inch radial tires, walnut floor bed, dual exhausts, Mitchell Gear-Splitter and turn signals.

The rest of the vehicle is stock. It features the original Ford 85 horsepower flathead motor and six volt system. The 1939 Ford trucks were designed by E.T. 'Bob' Gregorie.

For 1939, the Ford trucks continued the classic 'barrel grille' theme adopted a year earlier. They remained true to their utilitarian routes whereas other manufactured continued a gradual change to more luxurious and comfy models. The Ford trucks were simple and comfortable, with two basic gauges, a painted dashboard, and useful trim.

For 1939, the Ford trucks received four-wheel hydraulic brakes.

This example is finished in Vineyard Green and has a partially wooden stake bed, green wheel hubs, amber driving lamps, and wide whitewall tires. It has been restored to its original condition and has been used sparingly by its owner as his collection's service vehicle. The odometer shows under 70,000 miles.

Powering this truck is a 221 cubic-inch flathead V-8 engine delivering 85 horsepower. There is a three-speed manual gearbox and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes.
