For 1994, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class was given a new model designation along with several exterior modifications. The front end was new, as was the trunk lid. Mercedes-Benz dropped the 4Matic models, as the company believed their traction control system was sufficient to handle slippery surfaces.
The E-Class was available as a sedan, station wagon, coupe or convertible. Several engines were available, including a dual-overhead-cam six, a turbo-diesel six, and an overhead cam V-8 that was rated at 275 horsepower.
Sales were rather strong, especially for the E320 Sedan which saw 16,301 examples sold. In total, there were 27,911 examples of the E-Type sold in the United States in 1994. Pricing for the E-Type ranged from $40,000 - $81,000. The most expensive E-Type was the E500 sedan which shared its V8 engine with the S420 model.
