Hurlingham Speedster
Chassis #: RPA023931
In 1927, Vauxhall introduced their Model 20/60 which featured an overhead-valve inline six-cylinder engine that displaced 2762cc. This was the company's first six-cylinder powerplant since 1915. The engine was fitted to a three-speed gearbox and powered the rear wheels. Cataloged body styles ranged from short-wheelbase tourers to extended limousines. The Hurlingham boattail speedster had a sculpted tail, festooned with a single-passenger dickey seat, which offered the occupant a personal vee-configuration windscreen once ensconced. Since this body style was most likely to be used as a touring car, they were given taller gearing and higher compression. This example was purchased from the Abba Kogan collection in 2004. In 2007, it was shown at the Greenwich Concours d'Elegance where it earned the People's Choice award in the 'Concours Europa' event, just weeks after taking the 'Best Boat Tail' award at the Newport Concours, where boat tail cars were featured. The current owners purchased the car in 2008 and properly prepared it for extensive vintage touring.
The wood sub-frame for the body was rebuilt, and the car was treated to a high level of cosmetic presentation. Several modern modifications were made but were done in such a way that they could be reversed in the future.
