1968 Chevrolet Chevy II Nova

The 1968 Chevy II Nova (the Chevy II name would be no longer used after 1968) was given a new look and became slightly wider and six inches longer than its 1967 counterpart. It had a semi-fastback roofline in a similar fashion to the Chevelle, with wide flaring sail panels. Available body styles included a 2-door coupe or 4-door sedan. A four-cylinder engine was available but these were not very popular, with just over 1,000 examples sold. The other base engine options included a 230-CID six and the 307-CID V8. Other engines were available as optional equipment, including the Turbo-Jet 396 high-performance V-8. The six-cylinder was the most popular, with roughly 146,300 examples sold. Around 53,400 cars were equipped with the V8 engine.

The Chevy II body design would remain through 1974. The 1968 models are distinguished by the Chevy II name at the center of the upper grille surround. They also had single headlamps which rested in square bezels, a Chevelle-inspired rear-end design, and a full-width multiple bar grille.

Standard equipment on the Chevy II Nova included a heater, defroster, front armrests, foot-operated emergency brake, GM safety equipment, ignition alarm system, side marker lights, and concealed fuel filler. Many options were available, including an All-Season air conditioning system (except for four-cylinder cars), a positraction rear axle, a heavy-duty clutch, dual exhaust, tinted glass, and vinyl roof. The Nova SS option came equipped with the 350 CID engine rated at 295 horsepower. They had a special steering wheel, hood ornaments, black-accented grille, and rear deck plate. The hood was insulated, an SS grille, red stripe tires on six-inch rims, and special badging. They rode on 14x6 wheels and were equipped with the F40 suspension package (the F41 was optional).

The 1968 suspension found on the Nova included upper and lower control arms, tubular shocks, and coil springs. The steering was a recirculating-ball setup.
