1993 GMC Typhoon

The GMC Typhoon was produced from 1992 through 1993 with a total of 4,697 examples created (2,497 were produced in 1992). They were a high-performance version of the GMC Jimmy SUV and based on the Jimmy. The Typhoon could race from zero-to-sixty in just 5.3 seconds with the quarter-mile run in 14.1 seconds at 95 mph. This was accomplished with the help of a Mitsubishi TD06-17C/8 turbocharger and Garrett Water/Air intercooler attached to a 4.3-liter V6 engine. The powerplant featured performance intake manifolds, exhaust manifolds, and a 48mm twin-bore throttle body sourced from the 5.7 liter GM small-block engine. Horsepower was officially rated at 280 HP and 360 lb.-feet of torque. The engine was mated to a GM 700R4 4-speed transmission and a BorgWarner transfer case splitting torque with 35-percent forward and 65-percent to the rear wheels.

The Typhoon had an all-wheel-drive layout with upgraded brakes and a sport-tuned suspension. The Typhoon had an air-operated self-leveling rear suspension.
