As Chevrolet entered the 1950s, they were resting comfortably in the truck market sales lead, but with increasing pressure from Ford. Not resting on their laurels, Chevrolet began work on an ambitious program that offered comfort and power to its customers in the form of the Task Force series. The all-new Task Force lineup was introduced in 1955, and it was an instant success, thanks in part to the availability of the innovative small-block OHV V8.The new Task Force design featured car-inspired styling cues such as the Forward-slanting, 'Sweep-Sight' wraparound 'Panoramic' windshield, and shrouded headlights. Other features included a new upper cab structure and shapely wheel openings. In 1958, Chevrolet light-duty trucks in the Task Force line became known as Apaches, and just 1,405 examples of the Cameo model variant were produced for 1958, which was discontinued mid-year. The Cameo model had fiberglass rear fenders, two-tone paint, a well-appointed interior, and passenger-car styling. The front end was revised with a shorter, wider grille, and quad headlights.
