The Ford Model T was produced in significant quantities and sizes. Ford was prospering, but by the 1930s, local taxation was cutting into the American market share. By this point in history, Ford's products were being sold globally. Special models were also being created to conform to local tastes and conditions. The first of these was the Model Y for Britain. It was introduced in 1932 and wore a design that was styled in Detroit. It was a little car with distinct Ford cues and a chassis much like that of the Model A and B cars. In 1935, Ford got new styling in the United States courtesy of Phil Wright. Mr. Wright was a talented designer whose resume including designing the Pierce Silver Arrow. This theme was then replicated in miniature for the British line. The Model C was a ten-horsepower car that joined the eight-horsepower Model Y. The L-head four-cylinder engine found in the Model C displaced 1172cc. Later in 1935, it was joined by an enhanced Model CX. Together, they were manufactured for four years before being replaced by the new-design Perfect ten-horsepower car. In total, nearly 70,000 examples were built. This example is a Model CX that was imported from New Zealand. The car was restored in 2004. It is a right-hand drive example that has been upgraded with a 60 horsepower Ford V8 engine with Edelbrock aluminum heads and dual carburetors. There is a four-speed manual gearbox and rides on a 90-inch wheelbase.
In 2010, this car was offered for sale at the Sports & Classics of Monterey presented by RM Auctions. It was sold for the sum of $25,300 inclusive of buyer's premium.
