1911 International Harvester Model J

1911 International Harvester Model J 1911 International Harvester Model J 1911 International Harvester Model J International Harvester Company (IHC) was founded by Cyrus McCormick in 1847 in Chicago, Illinois. In 1899, they built an experimental motor buggy. The company would take nearly a decade before it introduced its first motor vehicle to the public. The company finally did offer a product to the masses, the year was 1907 and the vehicle was basically a buggy with a motor. After establishing a business and building over 100 vehicles, the operation was moved to Akron, Ohio.

While IHC is an iconic manufacturer of agricultural implements and tractors, few people know they manufactured high-wheeled horseless carriages for two years (1910-1911). IHC built only 1,105 J-30s, and this car is one of only five 1911 J-30s known to have survived. This J-30 was built utilizing familiar elements of IHC's other agricultural offerings in that the frame is made from solid oak, and it features a wooden body with full elliptical springs front and rear.

This five-passenger Touring Car is powered by four cylinders, cast in pairs, producing 30 horsepower coupled to a three-speed sliding gear transmission. The engine's cooling system is provided by a shaft-driven water pump.
