For 1983, BMW added a second 5-series vehicle to the lineup, the 533i, which came powered by a larger inline, overhead-cam six-cylinder engine. Whereas the 528e displaced 164 CID and offered 121 horsepower, the 533i had a 196 CID engine offering 181 horsepower. A five speed manual or three-speed automatic transmission were available, and pricing began at $29,000. The 533i came standard with leather upholstery, air conditioning, tinted glass, AM/FM stereo with cassette player, power windows, telescopic steering column, disc brakes, driver's seat title/height adjustment, central door locking, fog lamps, intermittent wipers, cruise control, light alloy wheels, and electric sliding steel sunroof.
