The BMW 6 Series coupe was produced from 1976 to 1988 with 86,216 examples built. It served as a replacement for the CS and CSL coupes. When production started in March of 1976, two models were offered: the 630 CS and 633 CSi. A more popular variant followed in July of 1978, dubbed the 635 CSi (it was originally available in North America and Japan). For 1984, the 633CSi Coupe had a base price of $40,700 and was powered by an overhead-cam inline-6 which it shared with the 533i and 733i. It had a displacement of 196 CID and offered 180 horsepower. The engine was given a four-speed automatic or a five-speed manual. Disc brakes provide the stopping power.
