1956 Powell Sport Wagon

1956 Powell Sport Wagon 1956 Powell Sport Wagon 1956 Powell Sport Wagon The Powell Brothers of Compton, California produced scooters and radios in the 1930s and 1940s. In the 1950s they decided to build a low-priced pickup truck for sportsmen and tradesmen. The simple bodies were constructed in their shop and they were mounted to fully rebuilt chassis and drive-trains from 1941 Plymouths.

In addition to the pickups, the Powell Brothers also designed and built a Sport Wagon. This rugged and versatile variant of the original Power truck was very much an early 'SUV', and it was perfect for family travel and off-road adventures.

Between 1955 and 1957, approximately 1,000 pickups were produced, but fewer than 100 Sport Wagons were built. The unique pull-out fishing rod holders and bait box were among the special Sport Wagon features. Production ended in 1957 due to a shortage of 1941 Plymouth donor cars. Of the five known remaining Sport Wagons, only three are complete and running. This example is the only example that is not on the West Coast.
