1985 Rover 2600S

1985 Rover 2600S 1985 Rover 2600S 1985 Rover 2600S Built from 1977-1986, the Rover SD1 (Specialist Division 1) is known the world over as the iconic British police car of the 1980s. This late model Rover SD1 2600 was imported in early 2016 from the Isle of Man by its current owner, an automotive journalist who has a passion for British Leyland brands like Rover, Mini, and Triumph.

While most Rover SD1s were equipped with the exBuick lightweight 3.5-liter aluminum V8 engine, British Leyland also developed several of their own engines for the model.

This particular example is powered by a 2.6-liter Over Head Cam inline six-cylinder engine, designed, engineered, and built by Triumph. This would be the last engine ever from the famous maker of TR and Spitfire sports cars. It develops 136 horsepower, which may sound minimal by today's standards, but with the relative lightness of this car, it proves to be more than adequate to provide both speed and smiles.

The SD1 is the last car Rover developed entirely on its own. All of the automobiles that would come from Rover after the SD1 would be engineered in collaboration with Honda or BMW.
