1993 Mercedes-Benz 300 Series

The 1993 Mercedes-Benz 300 Series was comprised of several trim levels and body styles including sedans, coupes, convertibles and station wagons. The 300E was powered by an overhead-cam six-cylinder engine which had a 170.8 displacement size and offered 158 horsepower. The 300CE had a 24-valve dual overhead cam six-cylinder engine which had 217 horsepower, while the 300SL had a 180.8 CID six-cylinder engine offering nearly 230 horsepower. A turbodiesel was also offered which had 121 horsepower and 165 ft/lbs of torque.

The legendary Mercedes-Benz 300 SL was introduced in 1954, and - along with the 190 - comprised the first generation of Mercedes-Benz's iconic SL (Sport Leicht) models. The second series was immortalized by its distinctive concave hardtop that resulted in the nickname 'Pagoda'. The third generation was a larger model, while the fourth - the R129 Series, was launched at the 1989 Geneva Motor Show. It was a well-engineered vehicle that was based around a two-door monocoque bodyshell, and featured an all-round independent suspension. It was based on a shortened version of the W124 floorpan. It had many active and passive safety features including electronic stability control, ventilated ABS disc brakes, adaptive-damping shock absorbers, front airbags and an integral rollover bar that deployed in less than a third of a second if the car ever sensed an impending flip. The specification was notably comprehensive and included electrically powered windows, mirrors, seats and a convertible top.

The cabin of the 300 SL convertible had a fully automated power hood and featured such advancements as memory seats, electric windows/mirrors and an adjustable steering column.

The Mercedes-Benz 300CE was produced between 1987 and 1983, and was built in limited numbers in the traditional manner of classic Mercedes-Benz coupes, being one of the very best specified and most luxuriously equipped models in the range. On the outside, they were similar to the 200CE Coupe. Powering the 300CE was a Type M103 2,960cc single overhead-camshaft six-cylinder engine offering 188 horsepower. In this guise, it was capable of a top speed in excess of 140 mph. Anti-lock brakes were standard on the larger 'CE', which was also available with the optional DOHC, 24-valve M104 power unit. A 300CE Convertible, equipped from the start with the 24-valve engine, was an addition to the range for 1992.
