1940 Ford Lloyd Rockey Special

1940 Ford Lloyd Rockey Special Sold for $24,200 at 2017 Bonhams : Greenwich Concours.
This racing special was created by brothers Lloyd and Glen Rockey from Muskegon, Michigan. The frame is Essex that was narrowed and rounded at the front. It currently has a 239 cubic-inch Ford V8 engine with an electric starter. There are twin Stromberg 94 carburetors and it produces approximately 150 horsepower. Lloyd's son David installed the upgraded starter and the in-and-out box was replaced with a late 1930's Ford three-speed transmission.

In the 1990s, the car was sold to Fred McKaig. The present owner purchased the number 13 racing car from Mr. McKaig in 2003. Since then, the car has been actively campaigned as well as modified. It was given a removable roll bar for driver protection, the radiator has been rebuilt, and the cooling system supplemented with an electric fan mounted in front of the radiator. The original two-wheel brake system was later upgraded with Ford brakes added to the front with a compensation valve in the brake line.

Recently, a rebuilt Type 59A Ford Flathead V8 engine was installed. The equipment on the previous engine was put on the replacement block; Mallory distributor, shaved pre-war style Cast iron heads, truck flywheel for 11' clutch, adjustable lifters, aluminum pistons on 8BA rods, the original hand-built headers are in place. Since 2004 it has run 1933/34 Ford 17' wheels on front and 1932 18' wheels on back with Dunlop racing rubber.
