FORD ISSUES SAFETY RECALL FOR APPROXIMATELY 500 SERVICE REPLACEMENT STEERING GEARS THAT MAY HAVE BEEN INSTALLED ON 2008-2010 F-250 AND F-350 DIESEL VEHICLES IN NORTH AMERICA

DEARBORN, Mich., Feb. 24, 2015 – Ford is issuing a safety recall for 538 service replacement steering gears that may have been installed on 2008-2010 Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty diesel vehicles in North America. The replacement steering gear mounting flange does not rest flush against the vehicle frame, which may result in steering gear bolt fatigue. Over time and with high mileage, the replacement steering gear bolts may break, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this condition.

The service replacement steering gears may have been installed on certain 2008-2010 Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.4-liter diesel engine. Ford is aware of 375 steering gears that may have been installed on vehicles in the United States and federalized territories, 156 in Canada and seven in Mexico.

Dealers will replace the bolts and install spacers between the steering gear and the vehicle frame. This will be done at no cost to customers.
