DRIVE-YOURSELF JOURNEYS AROUND SAN DIEGO COUNTY DEBUT ON KINDLE

June 15, 2015 by Joyride Guru

'Joyride Guru' takes locals and visitors on trips to beaches, mountains, deserts, on America's best roads

SAN DIEGO — Enjoy breathtaking views on isolated highways away from the city and learn more about one of the world's most beautiful regions with the new Joyride Guru day-trip e-book series. They're perfect for the driving enthusiasts, families, sports-car drivers, SUV owners and ecotourists, as well as motorcyclists and bicyclists.

San Diego writer Jack Brandais is taking technology for a ride in this new collection, which highlights some of the best roads in San Diego County that he's driven since 2000 with readers of the San Diego Union-Tribune and in his best-selling 2003 book, Weekend Driver San Diego.

'I've been crisscrossing this county finding the best roads for you to enjoy and explore,' said Brandais. 'We have it all here — beaches, mountains and deserts. Checking out these roads is a great way to spend a day.'

The Joyride Guru trips are interactive e-books available on the Amazon.com Kindle platform. They give drivers turn-by-turn directions, a locator map, and links to more details on what you're exploring. Drive on some of the same roads that car companies use to show of their beautiful vehicles.

Whether your ride is a minivan or Maserati, a Jeep or jalopy, hot rod or Hyundai, there's a perfect road nearby. Drives include twisting, curving roads and dirt trails from to the beach to the mountains and the desert. Perfect for families and anyone who wants to take a different journey.

Author Jack Brandais is a second-generation San Diegan who's been riding or driving on these roads since he was a kid. In 2000, he began writing the popular Weekend Driver column for the San Diego Union-Tribune newspaper; a best-selling collection of his drives was published in 2003 by Sunbelt Books. The drives are expanded and heavily revised from the 'Weekend Driver' columns.

The first drives of the Joyride Guru series are now online and can be downloaded for just $2.99 each for Kindle and Kindle apps, which run on most smart phones and tablets. They are:

'These drives include written directions that come in handy as some of the places you'll visit are out of cell range,' said Brandais. 'It's nice to get away from everything, but it helps to be able to return.'

Since making their debut in mid-May, the books have risen as high as No. 23 on Amazon's 'Best Sellers in 30-minute Travel Short Reads' list and No. 21 on Amazon's list of 'Best Sellers in San Diego California Travel Books.' Brandais has appeared on KUSI-TV (https://youtu.be/H8kCBwc0Qn8) and KSWB-TV (https://youtu.be/zvo4YXFqBY0) to discuss the books.
