JACKSON FOLLOWS COLLINGBOURNE IN RE-SIGNING WITH TEAM COOKSPORT FOR NEW RENAULT UK CLIO CUP SEASONGeorge Jackson (Bedford) will again race for British Touring Car Championship star Josh Cook's squad Team Cooksport in this year's Renault UK Clio Cup.

Jackson achieved a highest finish of fourth on his way to eighth overall in 2015's standings for Cooksport – notably the result, at Rockingham, also gave him a maiden win in the UK Clio Cup's 'Graduates' class for the grid's young drivers.

The 21-year-old becomes the second driver in quick succession to be announced as a Cooksport driver for 2016 after Rory Collingbourne (Newport, South Wales) also confirmed he was staying with the Bristol-based outfit for a second season.

Jackson commented: 'This year is all about building on what I achieved with Cooksport in my debut UK Clio Cup season when we showed we had the pace to be on the podium.

'The team do a fantastic job and there's the bonus of having a top touring car name like Josh as a mentor. I'm really up for it this year and want to be fighting for the top spots right from the off.'

Cook said: 'I'm delighted George and Rory will be team-mates with us again in 2016 as they worked very well together last year. You can't rush experience so, from a personal point of view, I'm really looking forward to working with them both again.

'George really came on strong with his pace, racecraft and aggression as 2015 progressed and at Rockingham he came very close to beating one of the title challengers, Ash Hand, to the podium. I expect him and Rory to push one another and be fighting for the big positions this year…'

Renaultsport's UK Championship Motorsport Manager Will Fewkes added: 'Off the back of some very good performances George will surely have gone into the winter break high on confidence so could really be one to watch when our new season starts at Brands Hatch in early April. The Cooksport name of course also adds further credibility to the very relevant links between the UK Clio Cup and BTCC grids.'
