Maximizing the 2016 Pinehurst Concours d'Elegance Experience

April 26, 2016 by Pinehurst Concours

VILLAGE OF PINEHURST, N.C. (April 26, 2016) – Patrons attending the fourth annual Pinehurst Concours d'Elegance this Saturday can ride in the lap of luxury in a new Porsche or Acura, run in a 5K on the golf course, witness precision skydivers from Fort Bragg or partake in BBQ and craft beer.

And that's not even the main attraction, which consists of some of the world's rarest collector cars and a performance by Motown legends, the Commodores, on the fairways of iconic Pinehurst Resort.

'The Pinehurst Concours has emerged as a truly special day and one of the most unique events in the state of North Carolina,' said Pinehurst Concours president Jay Howard. 'We have a little something for everyone. But the vintage cars remain the stars, and our field of rare automobiles keeps getting better and better as the reputation of our venue and world-class judging team spreads throughout the collector car hobby. Our tickets sales have been strong. We expect a great crowd Saturday.'

The 12 classes of rare cars and motorcycles – some approaching 100 years old – will be represented from 16 states and Mexico. Another class of non-judged racing cars will also be featured.

The Pinehurst Concours day begins at 7:45 a.m. with the running of the inaugural Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Fairway 5K Presented by FirstHealth Fitness. Runners can still pre-register at http://www.active.com/pinehurst-nc/running/distance-running-races/nc-fairway-5k-2016?int=72-3-A10 or www.firsthealth.org/fitness, or sign up the day of the race. All runners who finish the 5K on Pinehurst Resort Course No. 1 receive a ticket to the Pinehurst Concours and concert.

Meanwhile, beginning at 8 a.m. in the bag drop area in front of the Pinehurst Resort Clubhouse, Porsche, returning as a sponsor for the fourth straight year, and Acura, the preferred vehicle of Pinehurst Resort, will be conducting Ride & Drives on a first-come, first-served basis. The test drives will last until around 5 p.m.

'The drive will be about 45 minutes long and is a great way to experience the luxury and innovation of the new cars (at a reasonable speed),' said Peter Sanford, Area Marketing Manager, Area South, for Porsche Cars North America. 'We will also have the Macan, Panamera and Cayenne available for driving, and ambassadors from Porsche Cars North America to answer any questions you may have.

'We are also excited to include the 718 Boxster as a part of our showfield display. This will be one of the first opportunities for customers to see the new mid-engined roadster up close and personal. The 718 Boxster will go on sale later this summer.'

Those attending the Pinehurst Concours will also have the opportunity to test drive an Acura RLX, TLX, MDX, RDX or the ILX.

'We hope those patrons and sponsors that come to see all of the wonderful vehicles on display, including the new Acura NSX, will have the opportunity to participate in the Acura Ride & Drives during the event.'

After noon, elite parachute teams of Golden Knights and Black Daggers from Fort Bragg will make jumps into showfield, and the USO Show Troupe and 82nd Airborne All-American Chorus will perform for fans.

The awards ceremony will begin at 2 p.m., with the 2016 Best in Show expected to be announced around 4 p.m.

The Grammy Award-winning Commodores -- a band which has recorded seven No. 1 hits over four decades – will take the stage following the awards ceremony at approximately 5 p.m.
