RENAULT UK CLIO CUP AND UK CLIO CUP JUNIOR ON DISPLAY AT AUTOSPORT INTERNATIONAL

Both the Renault UK Clio Cup and its new Junior championship for 14 to 17-year-old racing drivers will have a presence at next month's world-famous Autosport International Show at Birmingham's NEC (12-15 January 2017) but with a bit of a twist.

A single car will be on display on the British Automobile Racing Club's stand and with good reason, as Renault Sport's UK Motorsport Championship Manager Will Fewkes explained.

'We want to demonstrate just how easy it is to turn the UK Clio Cup car that races at British Touring events into the Junior car and vice-versa,' commented Fewkes.

'Therefore our car will sport UK Clio Cup livery on one side and UK Clio Cup Junior livery on the other.

'Bear in mind that all that it takes to set the car up for one championship or the other is a simple modification to the ECU and a switch between either Michelin's slick racing tyre or its Pilot Sport 3 road tyre.

'At a recent test at Snetterton we ran the car in UK Clio Cup specification in the morning and then, in the one-hour lunch break, had transformed it into UK Clio Cup Junior spec for running in the afternoon.

'The fact the car can be turned around for use in one of two championships so quickly makes it unique in motor sport and, we believe, a fantastic investment for teams and drivers looking to become involved in our championships.'

He added: 'It is well documented just how much of an impression the Junior car's performance has made on top drivers like Ashley Sutton, Phil Glew and Jim Edwards. All have been very vocal in saying how much it will help young drivers gain confidence and, later, ensure a smooth transition into the senior UK Clio Cup and then on to touring cars.'

The Renault Sport UK team behind both the UK Clio Cup and UK Clio Cup Junior will also be present on the BARC's stand during Autosport International 2017 to answer questions about the two championships.

As in previous years all 18 rounds of the Renault UK Clio Cup will take place at the British Touring Car Championship's high-profile events in 2017 – meaning huge trackside crowds and live free-to-air TV coverage on ITV4. Indeed the BTCC's ten events in 2016 attracted 384,500 people and some 130 hours of live TV coverage
