Daniel Rowbottom Returns To Renault UK Clio Cup With Major Cataclean Sponsorship

March 15, 2017 by Renault Sport

Daniel Rowbottom Returns To Renault UK Clio Cup With Major Cataclean SponsorshipDaniel Rowbottom (Kidderminster) has announced he will return for a full season of the Renault UK Clio Cup in 2017 with his own DRM team and a new main sponsor – Cataclean, a global name in automotive fuel systems cleaning.

Rowbottom, a former top international karter, showed considerable potential in his debut UK Clio Cup season in 2016 – the highlight being pole position for his race debut in the championship on the demanding Brands Hatch Indy circuit. He also achieved seven top-ten results – the best a fifth – in the ten races he contested (he was unable to complete the full 18-race season).

Now though he is confident he will return an even stronger driver and says he's determined to put together a title challenge.

'I'm not about making up the numbers – I'm there to go for the championship,' commented 27-year-old Rowbottom.

'I'm coming back to it a lot wiser and with a very committed and proactive sponsor in Cataclean who see the benefits of being part of the UK Clio Cup grid – particularly given the exposure the championship receives alongside the British Touring Car Championship.'

Rowbottom becomes the second high profile driver in just a few days to state they are 'going it alone' with a single-car set-up in this year's UK Clio Cup – on Friday Shayne Deegan, with numerous car racing titles already to his name, announced he would contest 2017's season with his self-run SDR Motorsport outfit.

Rowbottom added: 'The budgets involved in the UK Clio Cup mean it is still possible for a smaller team like ours to put together a really effective campaign – I'm a bit of a renegade and like the challenge of getting ourselves into a position to taking on the big boys.'

The 2017 Renault UK Clio Cup get under way at the Brands Hatch Indy circuit in Kent with the opening two rounds of its season on Sat 1/Sun 2 April. All 18 races on the calendar will take place at the BTCC's high profile events meaning huge trackside crowds (38,000+ on average in 2016) and live free-to-air television coverage on ITV4 for its teams, drivers and sponsors

Will Fewkes, Renault Sport's UK Motorsport Championship Manager, said: 'It's great to see Daniel back with us in 2017 and also him bringing a global automotive brand such as Cataclean to the grid. Similarly using the options the UK Clio Cup gives those competing in it to set up what I predict will be a very competitive single-car entry.'
