A panel of eight automotive journalists with over 100 years of collective experience evaluating new vehicles selected this year's award winners. The panel of jurors was given a single, overarching directive: within each category, rank the vehicles in the order that you would recommend them to your family members, friends and co-workers.

In selecting its award winners, Daily News Autos staff members and contributing writers considered all 2017 model-year vehicles with a base price of less than $100,000. The vehicles needed to be on sale and available to consumers by Feb. 1, 2017.
