(MAHWAH, N.J.) – September 19, 2017 – Jaguar Land Rover North America this week celebrated the U.S. Armed Forces Team at a send-off event in Long Island, N.Y. ahead of their departure to Toronto for the 2017 Invictus Games, the international sporting event for wounded, ill and injured service members. Jaguar Land Rover is the Presenting Partner of the Invictus Games Toronto 2017 and sponsor of the U.S Armed Forces Team, continuing their support of the inaugural Games in London in 2014 and the Orlando Games in 2016.

Over 80 athletes from the U.S. Team, led by team captains Sgt. Ivan Sears and Capt. Christy Wise, gathered for the first time in Long Island for a series of practices and scrimmages before the upcoming Games, taking place Sept. 23-30, in Toronto, Canada. Supported by Jaguar Land Rover, the send-off celebration was organized to recognize and honor the athletes as they depart to compete in Toronto against teams from 13 competing nations.

'The Invictus Games is an amazing event as it brings together wounded warriors from all around the world to compete, share stories and encourage each other. We want to thank Jaguar Land Rover for all of their support before and during the games,' said U.S. Armed Forces Team Captain for Invictus Games Toronto 2017, USAF, Capt. Christy Wise.

'The Invictus Games gives us all the chance to challenge ourselves and build a better version of ourselves. I speak on behalf of the entire team when I say that we are all so excited to represent the U.S. Armed Forces Team in Toronto,' said U.S. Armed Forces Team Co-Captain for Invictus Games Toronto 2017, USMC, Sgt. Ivan Sears.

The U.S. Team is made up of veterans or active-duty service men and women from across the country who will compete in all 12 adaptive sports, including archery, indoor rowing, power lifting, road cycling, sitting volleyball, swimming, track and field, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby, golf, and the Jaguar Land Rover Driving Challenge.

The Invictus Games are the only international adaptive sporting event for wounded, ill, and injured veterans and active-duty service members. The Games use the power of sport to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and generate a wider understanding and respect for these men and women.
