London, UK, 13 November 2017 – The 2018 Land Rover BORN Awards competition is launched today to promote the creation of compelling products that can enrich people's lives.

Online registration is open following the global premiere of the new Range Rover at the Design Museum in London. The theme of this year's awards is 'peerless', a fitting description of the latest evolution of the definitive luxury SUV.

The competition is open to all creators who register at born.com, and will be judged by a jury co-headed by Gerry McGovern, Land Rover Chief Design Officer, and Jean-Christophe Chopin, founder and CEO of BORN.

For the first time, to reflect the international spirit and increasing scale of the awards, there will be seven regional competitions as well as the global final celebrating the winners. These are for the USA, China, UK, Italy, France, Spain and the rest of the world.

There will be six categories: Architecture, Technology, Home, Fashion, Sports and Mobility. Judges will look for innovation, sustainability, relevance and desirability. Entry is open to new brands or creators and established names alike.

Gerry McGovern, Land Rover Chief Design Officer, said: 'Peerless is a term that continues to inspire me. It alludes to the idea that there's nothing else quite like it. A peerless design stands apart, for all the right reasons.

'It's easy to simply be different...but to truly deserve the term 'peerless' takes imagination, intellect, wit, and more than a little wisdom.

'Land Rover's creative partnership with BORN continues to stimulate great ideas, putting design in the spotlight promoting the discipline of design internationally and, I hope, serving to inspire the next generation of designers.'

From the initial entries – almost 6,000 last year – two finalists from each category in each regional competition will be chosen to exhibit at Milan Design Week in May 2018. These finalists then go head-to-head for the final awards, to be announced in July in London.

The winners will be celebrated among their peers, top design professionals, luxury lifestyle journalists and design lovers. Finally they will join the BORN Conversations, summits created to bring together the brightest creative and business minds to share ideas on design.

Jean-Christophe Chopin, founder and CEO of BORN, said: 'The next iteration of the BORN Awards will encompass even more incredible creators from around the world. The theme of 'peerless' is completely appropriate for such groundbreaking and inventive personalities. BORN and Land Rover are united in our belief in the importance of recognising the contribution these creators make to changing the world for the better.

'I founded BORN to find and celebrate the most innovative design in the world, both functionally and aesthetically, and by expanding the awards internationally and holding the BORN Conversations simultaneously, we are taking the next step towards a better world: one in which truly inspirational design has a tangible effect on improving the lives of everyone.'
