Concours d'Elegance of America Best of Show

The 40th Annual Concours d'Elegance of America had over 300 of the world's most spectacular contributions to automotive history on its show field. Currently held at the Inn at St. John's in Plymouth, Michigan, the event spent most of its existence as the Meadow Brook Concours before moving to its new location. It was one of the first Concours to highlight Modern Super Cars, Drag racing Cars, Indy Race Cars, and other special features that has sourced cars from all over the country. This years' show featured Rollston Bodied Cars, Porsche Race Cars, Flip Top Funny Cars, Jet Age Fabulous 58s, Bugatti, Muscle Cars, and Sports Cars. The featured Collector of the Year were Sam and Emily Mann who brought along an assortment of Best in Show cars from their esteemed collection. Enthusiast of the Year Mark Reuss shared several significant cars from his personal collection which was showcased along cars from the GM Heritage Collection.

The awards ceremony concluded with the 1935 Duesenberg Model SJ and a 1937 Bugatti T57S winning Best of Show honors. The Concours hands out two Best of Show awards, one for an American car and the other for a European car. The Duesenberg, owned by Bill and Barbara Parfet of Hickory Corners, MI., wears convertible coachwork by Rollston. It is one of 10 chassis designated JN and is the only factory-equipped supercharged JN produced.

The winning Bugatti is owned by Rick Wortman and his Rare Wheels Collection of Windemere, Florida. It is an Atalante Coupe with a custom body by Gangloff that is exactly as it was in 1937. The Type 57S was the most sporting of all the Type 57 models, with its surbaisse (low) race-proven chassis and powerful 3.3-liter engine. The Type 57 represents the best of French pre-war automotive design in performance, styling and leading edge engineering. It is considered to be one of the most beautiful designs of all time.
