Herndon — Volkswagen of America, Inc. is pleased to announce that the Volkswagen Golf has received Good Housekeeping's 2019 Best New Car Award in the Compact category. The experts at the Good Housekeeping Institute joined forces with Car and Driver to prep a fully loaded guide to the year's best cars and rated vehicles on safety, value, handling, design and technology after driving more than 5,000 miles of city roads, highways and test tracks.

Good Housekeeping deemed the Golf a standout among compact vehicles for its roomy back seats, cargo capacity and standard driver assistance features, including Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Monitoring (Front Assist).

'We are so proud that Good Housekeeping has honored the Golf with this award,' said Derrick Hatami, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Volkswagen of America, Inc. 'The seventh generation Golf represents great value packed with driver-assistance features, sportiness and purposeful styling.'

'Not only is the Golf surprisingly sporty, stylish, and spacious, it also offers a quick, nimble driving experience,' said Rachel Rothman, Good Housekeeping Chief Technologist & Engineering Director. 'Based on our testing, we recommend this sturdy, reliable option for anyone—from a young family in the suburbs to a recent grad in the city,' added Laurie Jennings, Good Housekeeping Institute Director & Lead Consumer Tester.

The 2019 Volkswagen Golf is available in two trims—S and SE. The 1.4-liter TSI, 147hp powertrain is paired with either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission. Standard driver-assistance features include Front Assist, Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Traffic Alert. Every Volkswagen Golf comes with the People First Warranty, America's Best Bumper-to-Bumper Limited Warranty. The warranty provides coverage for six-years or 72,000-miles (whichever occurs first), and can be transferred to a subsequent owner throughout the remainder of its duration. MSRP starts at $21,845 for the S with six-speed manual transmission.
