Carmel-by-the Sea Concours on the Avenue

The 12th edition of the Carmel-by-the-Sea Concours on the Avenue is one of the prestigious events that occur during the Monterey Peninsula ten-day collector car gathering. It celebrates the finest in automotive design and engineering by showcasing cars from many marques, with years spanning 1940 thru 1973 and with Porsche and Ferrari thru 1989. The focus is on vehicles not usually seen during this ten-day period and over 175 cars were on display in groups of juried classes.

Best of Show honors went to Phil White of Portola Valley, California for his 1952 Osca MT4 Berlinetta. It has recently received a restoration and wears its original livery and is powered by its original motor. It is one of four bodied by Vignale in 1952 and its radical design cues include the front wheel arches which offer better ventilation of the motor and the front drum brakes. At the 1953 24 Hours of LeMans, it finished first in class and 17th overall with a smaller 1,100cc motor. In the 1954 1,000 km of Buenos Aires it made first in class and 11th overall.

Carmel-by-the-Sea is located on the Pacific Coast in Monterey County, Ca and is known for its rich artistic history and natural scenery. It is a dog-friendly town with numerous restaurants, retail establishments, and hotels. The cars arrived early, were positioned throughout the town, along the main street and many sides streets, and the enthusiasts (many with pets) soon followed. This leisure event has certainly grown in popularity over the years and become a staple of the Pebble Beach Car week.
