Milton Keynes – Visitors to the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles stand at next week's Motorhome and Caravan Show (stand 10.22) at the NEC in Birmingham can look forward to a grand old time. Not only is the Show the first time that the UK public will have the chance to see Volkswagen's new motorhome, but the UK's biggest leisure vehicle show also gives them the chance to pick up a special offer on the California campervan, with a free bike rack topping off some already competitive offers on the popular T6 model.
Retaining many of the strengths of the original Transporter-based California, the Crafter-based Grand California's appeal is extended by the addition of extra space, and a wetroom with toilet, shower, a fold-out wash basin, shelves, cupboards and a skylight for ventilation. Two different versions will be available: the '680' – measuring 6.8 metres – and the '600' – measuring 6 metres - which not only has a double bed at the rear but also an overcab bed for children.
Prices for the Grand California start at £68,899 (RRP inc VAT exc OTR) for the 600 and rise to £78,145 for the 680 with 4MOTION four-wheel drive. One engine – a torquey 2.0-litre TDI 177 PS – is available, twinned to a standard eight-speed automatic gearbox.
