BLENHEIM, Ontario (19 August 2020) – RM Sotheby's is delighted to offer a beautiful six-car, single-owner collection of incredible European sports cars through its Private Sales division. Listed for sale individually, each vehicle forms part of 'The Driver's Collection' and has been lovingly maintained to an exceptional standard by a passionate collector and driving enthusiast. All the cars have been prepared for long-distance driving for their next enthusiast owners to enjoy. The collection joins a growing number of investment-quality automobiles available to purchase by private treaty, directly through RM Sotheby's.

Headlining the collection is one of the most widely admired and iconic Mercedes-Benz models of all time, a 1960 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster. Known for its performance and stunning styling, the car offered is an exceptional vehicle in many ways, and almost unrepeatable. Immaculately presented in its original Papyrus white paint with desirable matching white Rudge center-mount alloy wheels covering period-correct larger diameter finned-drum brakes and striking dark green leather interior, this 300 SL has benefited from meticulous and routine maintenance by the foremost 300SL Specialists in North America including Paul Russell, Scott Grundfor and Rene Luteraan. Remarkably, the Roadster shows just under 60,000 miles from new and is an outstanding driving example. It is accompanied by its original and extremely desirable Karl Baisch fitted luggage, manuals, tool roll featuring tire pressure gauge and it's original matching hardtop still in its original Mercedes-Benz packing crate, which will also accommodate the canvas top in stretched condition for optimum winter storage.

The 1968 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL Pagoda '3.5 Conversion' built on the strengths of its direct predecessor, offers an impressive level of performance while also serving as a stylish grand tourer that set the template for SL models for over three decades. This example has undergone substantial 17-year development by a leading marque expert, Peter Krausert, and features a 3.5-litre naturally aspirated V-8 engine from a Mercedes 280 SE. The transformation added 40 horsepower over the 280 SL's 2.8-litre inline six-cylinder. This unique car that benefits from years of loving attention and upgrades by Peter Krausert of Herr 600 Inc. in Fallbrook, California, is offered here in the classically desirable color combination of deep black bodywork and vibrant red interior. This automatic 280 SL is an outstanding driver's example that displays exceptional craftmanship throughout to make it a highly attractive and truly special example of its type.

Rounding out the trio from Stuttgart is the 1995 Porsche 911 (993) Carrera RS. One of most extreme road-going variants of the 911 ever produced and regarded by many as the best looking of all RS derivatives, the 993 Carrera RS was built as the mandatory homologation of the 3.8-liter RSR for BPR GT3 and GT4 competition racing. With a whole host of innovative motorsport technology, only 1,100 examples of this raw driver's machine were produced, making it both a rare and highly collectable variant of the sought-after 993-generation Porsche 911. An original, matching-numbers example, this accident-free, Japanese-delivery example is finished in the model's signature Speed Yellow paint over custom-order black leather interior and was optioned with the purposeful RS Clubsport aero package. Imported into the US in 2011, the Carrera RS has covered nearly 36,000 km, with an additional 2,060 miles following the conversion of the car's odometer to record in miles and comes with full documentation tools and historic invoices.

Also offered for sale as part of the collection are a duo of stunning Alfa Romeo Giuliettas. The 1960 Alfa Romeo Giulietta SZ Zagato features a space frame chassis, a rounded body with minimalist interior and Perspex windows to help make the Zagato a formidable, light-weight machine for road and track. One of the first 'Coda Tonda' examples produced out of a total production run of just 200, the SZ Zagato was purchased by the consignor from the original owner – noted Alfa Romeo distributer and racing driver, Karl Foitek. In the hands of Mr. Foitek, the car raced in-period at tracks, including the Nürburgring and the Targa Florio, and would be ideally suited to vintage racing and rally events around the world. A recipient of extensive maintenance and service over the past five years, the car comes fresh to market following a complete engine overall. Included within the sale is a spare engine block and Mr. Foitek's original bucket seat.

If classic drop-top cruising is more your style, little can rival the simplistic beauty of the 1960 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider Veloce. Benefiting from a complete overhaul, which included a full engine rebuild, new exhaust, front brake disc conversion, dashboard refresh and the installation of a new convertible top, the Spider offers chic '60s style while also serving as a successful and reliable rally entrant for the current owner. Maintaining matching numbers, the car has been uprated to 2,000 cc and is one of just 1,203 examples produced, presented in its original specification white paint with matching wheels over a tan interior. Unusually, it features a number of trim components also finished in white, as specified by the original owner.

Concluding the collection is a desirable 1965 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 4.2-Litre Coupe, presented in distinctive Willow Green paintwork over an exceptional tan interior. Maintaining its matching-numbers engine as per the supplied Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, the Coupe received a full restoration in two stages with the mechanical side being completed in 2014. The work included a big-bore exhaust system, an upgrade of the transmission to a Tremec five-speed manual unit, new Wilwood brakes and improvements to the cooling systems. The cosmetic side of the restoration was just recently completed and included the interior being reupholstered in supple tan leather along with concours level paintwork. Beautifully restored and tastefully upgraded over the original specification, the handsome Jaguar would make a stylish and eminently drivable addition to a true enthusiast's garage.

'These outstanding sports cars showcase some of the most influential designs and innovative engineering of their day,' said Alexander Weaver, Car Specialist, RM Sotheby's.
