The 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe and Elantra have been awarded 2021 TOP SAFETY PICK awards from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) when equipped with specific headlights. The Elantra and Santa Fe are Hyundai's eighth and ninth vehicles to receive a 2021 TSP or TSP+ rating. Hyundai has seven models that earn the TSP rating and two earning TSP+ ratings and all Hyundai SUV models have TSP or TSP+ honors. Hyundai now ties for third place for the most combined TSP+ and TSP-rated vehicles in the automotive industry today when equipped with optional front crash prevention and LED headlights.

'These top ratings prove our commitment to safety,' said Brian Latouf, chief safety officer, Hyundai Motor North America. 'Being an industry leader in safety and IIHS accolades is foundational to our brand, and we continually strive to provide outstanding passenger safety to our customers.'

To qualify for TSP, vehicles must earn good ratings in all six IIHS crashworthiness evaluations, including the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests. They must also be available with a front crash prevention system that earns advanced or superior ratings in both the vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian tests and good- or acceptable-rated headlights. For the higher-tier TSP+ award, good or acceptable headlights must be standard on all models, regardless of trim level.
