Subaru Rally Car Sells for $865K; Rare '72 Ferrari Daytona Leads Newest Auction Entries
COLLECTING CARS UPDATE: HAMMER FALLS AT $865,000 FOR HISTORIC SUBARU IMPREZA S6 WRC2000 RALLY CAR
Collecting Cars today announces the $865,000 auction sale of the iconic ex-Richard Burns and Robert Reid Subaru Impreza S6 WRC2000, which stormed to victory in the 2000 Rally of Great Britain - a vehicle widely regarded as 'the most original WRC car in the world.'
The legendary Subaru was taken directly from the finish line of the 2000 Network Q Rally GB by its first private owner, assuring the originality of the famed rally car, which has been preserved for 21 years since. The final hammer price resulted from highly competitive activity on the virtual auction block.
The new week features dozens of additions to the Collecting Cars global auction, most notably led by a rare 1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Berlinetta. Showcased in this new video, the V12-engined masterpiece was ordered from the factory via Maranello Concessionaires by a former member of the Royal Air Force. This unique example combines silver coachwork over a light blue Connolly Vaumol leather interior, a wood-rimmed steering wheel and Borrani wire wheels.
Restored with extensive mechanical work and a full bare-metal repaint in 2011, this Daytona Berlinetta was granted Ferrari Classiche Certification in 2012.
Collecting Cars also presents 'The Colour and Chrome Collection,' an assemblage of seven classic Mercedes-Benz models representing the marque's 'golden era of design,' spanning a two-decade period starting in the 1960s. Accented by sleek chrome elements, each of these seven rare modes typify the class and character of their eras.
Highlights of this collection starts with its oldest model, a fully restored 1966 230 SL 'Pagoda' roadster. Defining luxury, a 280 SE 3.5 saloon from 1972 has been restored in the timeless combination of silver over red.
Built a decade later but no less stylish; the W123-generation 230 TE on offer is finished in the rare hue of Cactus Green and retains its original MB Tex and cloth interior. This modern classic is equipped with a factory sunroof, power steering, and the four-speed manual gearbox.
