A 1994 Porsche 911 (964) Turbo 3.6 X88 owned and driven by 2009 Formula One World Champion Jenson Button has sold for $439,099 (£317,464) today on the Collecting Cars auction platform.

A total of 99 bids were submitted for the rare Porsche, which was specially ordered by the Sultan of Brunei. The sale follows of the July 6 Collecting Cars auction of a 2004 Porsche Carrera GT originally owned and driven by Button, which sold for €820,500 ($975,000 USD).

The unique 964-generation 911 Turbo is powered by a turbocharged 3.6-litre flat-six, which produces 380bhp with the 'X88' power package, driving the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.

A one-off example of Porsche's 964 Turbo 3.6, it is equipped with the factory-fitted X88 power package and with storied provenance. It carries the distinction of being the only 'X88' car offered in Horizon Blue Metallic finish, pairing with full Marine Blue leather upholstery. Additional equipment includes an electric sliding sunroof, air conditioning, the headlight levelling system, a top-tinted windscreen, a rear windscreen wiper, and an onboard computer.
