•Launched ahead of the Formula One™ Grand Prix, during Mercedes-AMG's Speed City activation, the collaboration features a dedicated fashion capsule and AMG GT wrap

AMG and sacai unveil a capsule collection that celebrates the hybridity of their rich but contrasting shared brand DNA: progressive but timeless, performance-led but casual, traditional but innovative. The Japanese fashion label's first collaboration with a luxury automobile brand, the unique capsule collection spans luxury ready-to-wear staples and accessories. It is available at AMG Speed City in Las Vegas until 12 p.m. PST on Friday, November 17, 2023, and exclusively on Nordstrom.com starting today.

he Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.8 AMG, also known as the 'Red Pig,' served as an inspiration to the collection, which draws from the car's unlikely success story. In 1971, the iconic race car, a predecessor of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, entered the 24 Hours of Spa as an underdog. Most did not expect the 300 SEL to make it to the finish line, but AMG comprehensively prepared the vehicle for the endurance race. Against all odds, the Red Pig achieved a second place overall finish.

While the inspiration behind the collaboration is unmistakably AMG, the execution is distinctively sacai. Dynamic badges that are emblazoned across everything from jackets and t-shirts to tote bags and a jumpsuit are direct reinterpretations of the Red Pig's motifs through sacai's design and offer a fresh perspective on familiar fashion archetypes. The design of the garments and accessories was approached as an intellectual exercise and every piece is imbued with signature meaning and intention.

'AMG and sacai sit at the intersection of luxury and performance in their respective fields, and we are thrilled to see the collaboration come to life in a way that feels authentic to both brands' DNA: innovative, disruptive and unique. Our customers are connoisseurs, and the creation of bold brand experiences and one-of-a-kind luxury products, such as sacai x AMG, is at the heart of our brand.''

Michael Schiebe, Mercedes-AMG CEO

'Our approach to design with purpose at sacai is to always explore the quintessential forms and create something new. The purest intention is to start from the archetype, which also applies to collaborations, working with the original and the best in its respective fields. AMG is a true symbol of our intention, and this encounter comes with the deepest respect and admiration for our mutual understanding of innovative quality and pure elegance.'

Chitose Abe, Designer and Founder of sacai.

Complementing the capsule collection is a bespoke wrap for the all-new Mercedes-AMG GT. Designed by sacai and unveiled at AMG Speed City, it perfectly completes a new creative interpretation of the Red Pig's design elements. In the spirit of sacai's masterful craft and textural play, the Red Pig's motifs have once again been abstracted and given three-dimensional form. The result is a mirrored chrome finish, with the original badges and shapes embossed on the surface of the GT.

AMG and sacai may appear to be unlikely partners, but these two trailblazers are united in their uniqueness, singular personality and progressive vision – and the collaboration captures the essence of this hybrid DNA.

About sacai

Sacai was established by Chitose Abe in 1999 in Tokyo, Japan. Sacai incorporates the idea of hybridization through juxtapositions of contrasting textures of fabrics and the usage of techniques based on reinterpretations of patterns of the garment, transforming the pieces into unexpected shapes and silhouettes. While Abe's collections may appear to be about femininity, her interest is in creating clothes that are entirely unique and timeless, innovative. To Abe, who is influenced by observing her surroundings and functions of daily life, the sacai collection has a distinctive elegance that is based on renderings and transformations of basic and classical items. The result is a versatile collection of items that is not only reserved for special occasions.
