12 Hours: 3 Community Events Hosted by WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca

Community events are one of the driving pillars of WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. It was a busy 12-hour period this past weekend with three events that attracted a variety of visitors to the Laguna Seca Recreation Area. WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca staff volunteered their time to host the burst of activities.

For bicyclists, Twilight Cycling provides a safe and challenging activity on the 2.238-mile circuit. The Friday, March 15 ride was a popular one for all ages and riding skills. 'We enjoy welcoming families, sometimes who come with tricycles for the youngsters, heading out onto the track that's normally reserved for high-speed racing,' commented April Morris, director of operations at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. 'Whether they complete one lap or many on the hilly layout, they come away with big grins on their faces.'

That same evening when the sun set, astronomy clubs and the Monterey Institute for Research in Astronomy, an independent non-profit, conducted its first ever Race to Space. Held on Hospitality Island, the event went from 7:30 – 10:30 and more than 100 families arrived to stargaze and learn about the celestial galaxy. 'It was incredible to peer into professional telescopes and see details of the moon, the planets and their moons, and even nebulas as the sky darkened,' commented Alicia Busa, communications manager at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. 'We didn't know what to expect for this first one, but it far exceeded expectations while attracting a number of people who had only seen Laguna Seca on television.'

Twelve hours later on Saturday, more than 850 cars arrived for the quarterly Cars & Coffee gathering in the Hagerty Marketplace. Complimentary Captain + Stoker coffee was prepared by Coastal Roots Hospitality, Tanimura & Antle provided produce packages while guests wandered among nearly every make and model imaginable. From customs and Japanese classics to McLarens, Corvettes and Tesla Cybertrucks, it was a veritable automotive feast.

Cars & Coffee events also double as fundraisers for area not-for-profits. This past Saturday's event collected a total of $3,735 in donations for the Blind & Visually Impaired Center of Monterey County.

'It is really gratifying to open Laguna Seca Recreation Area for these special community events,' commented John Narigi, president of WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. 'As stewards of this beautiful County of Monterey-owned park and race track, we want to continue welcoming people to enjoy it whether it is a community event or an exciting nail-biting race.'
