Mecum Hits East Coast with 1,000 Collector Cars and Vintage Motorcycles in Harrisburg

Auction Slated for July 24-27 at Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Expo Center

Walworth, WI - July 9, 2014 -- Mecum Auctions, the largest collector car auction company in the world, will conduct its first-ever auction in Harrisburg this July 24-27 at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Expo Center with an estimated 1,000 collector cars expected to cross the auction block Thursday through Saturday and 200 motorcycles on Sunday.

Featured consignments include a well-documented 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle LS6 Convertible (Lot S145), a selection of more than a dozen cars from the personal collection of legendary collector car auctioneer and Pennsylvania native J. Omar Landis, as well as a four-speed 1970 Dodge Hemi Coronet R/T (Lot S107). Other vehicles that speak to the variety of the lineup include an award-winning 1916 Cadillac Town Car (Lot S93), a highly-optioned 1968 Chevrolet Camaro RS Z28 (Lot S98) and a Candy Apple Red 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 Fastback (Lot S123). Several of these headliners are detailed below. The vintage and antique motorcycle segment to be held on Sunday, July 27 is highlighted by the Mike Quinn Collection featuring more than 100 Harley-Davidsons amassed over the last 35 years.

The Mecum Harrisburg Auction is open to buyers, sellers and spectators. Gates will open daily at 8 a.m., and the auction begins each day at 10 a.m. General admission tickets are $20 per day for adults, and children 12 and younger receive complimentary admission. 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle LS6 Convertible (Lot S145)

This authentic, 44,000-mile SS 454 LS6 Chevelle Convertible is a documented two-owner car with original part numbers and date codes throughout. Never modified or raced, the car was in excellent condition even before undergoing a frame-off restoration to a level exceeding concours expectations. Its rarity and desirability is further boosted by being the only known SS 454 LS6 Convertible in this color combination, and also boasts an extensive option list. Options include power windows, tilt steering, bucket seats, console, tach and gauges, AM/FM radio, cowl induction, tinted glass, remote mirror and more. Accompanied by two build sheets, Protect-O-Plate, plus Baltimore assembly plant road test papers, this is certainly one of the most desirable LS6 Chevelles on the market today.

1970 Dodge Hemi Coronet R/T (Lot S107)

In addition to its unusual rarity, this 1970 Hemi Coronet R/T is further recommended by both voluminous documentation and its history as an original California car. It is fresh from a rotisserie restoration using all NOS or factory parts, an admirable accomplishment in today's world of ever-diminishing supplies of such highly sought-after items. The matching-numbers Hemi engine was rebuilt by no less an authority than the late Dick Landy, who completed the work in 2000.

Code F8 Dark Green Metallic paint was chosen by the original owner, who also specified that the R/T-standard rear tail stripe be deleted. The resulting 'sleeper' look is furthered by matching painted steel wheels and dog dish hub caps, the only giveaways being the R/T badging, rear body side imitation scoops and the very real Ramcharger twin hood scoops feeding the sealed air cleaner. Optional equipment includes a wood-grain rimmed steering wheel, R22 Solid State AM radio with 8-track tape player, full gauges including 'Tic-Toc-Tach,' Light and Protection Groups and tinted glass. Documented with the factory build and broadcast sheets and accompanied by a Chrysler Registry report, this unique Hemi R/T has been with the same owner for 10 years and comes with a wealth of ownership history dating back to the original purchaser.

1916 Cadillac Town Car (Lot S93)

This timeless classic is a multiple-award-winning example of one of Cadillac's early Town Cars. Featuring a body-off restoration by Rheinholds Restoration of Pennsylvania that was completed in 1988 and freshened in 2008, the car was the recipient of the AACA Junior and Senior Award in 1988, and it also took First in Class, Best in Show and People's Choice at the Cadillac LaSalle Club Grand National in 1989. After the minor touchups by Rheinhold's in 2008, the car returned to the Cadillac LaSalle Club Grand National and earned the Senior Award, and additionally went on to earn the Lion's Award for Excellence at the 30th Anniversary Meadow Brook Concours d'Elegance.

A Type-53 dressed in an aluminum body and wearing steel fenders, this Cadillac is equipped with an aluminum V-8 engine with cast headers, dual water pumps and dual exhaust. Interior appointments include a leather driver compartment and tilt wheel, with passenger compartment featuring Teal mohair with silk brocade trimming and a jump seat, interior lights, speaker phone to the driver, flower vase and roll-down partition window. Believed to be the only Healey-bodied car for this vintage, the car is believed to have only 20,945 original miles and was featured in the Hemmings Classic Car in April 2008.

1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 Fastback (Lot S123)

Underrated at 375 horsepower, Ford's Boss 429s were powerhouses actually capable of outputting closer to 500 horsepower. As KK1611, this Boss 9 is one of just 859 produced in 1969, making it a rare gem even then as it certainly is today. Dressed in desirable Candy Apple Red, the car is equipped with a Holman-Moody race 429 CI 4V Boss engine mated to a four-speed close-ratio transmission. In addition to exterior features like the functional front air spoiler and the rear glass louvers, this Boss boasts the interior deluxe décor group with AM radio, console and more. Power steering, power front disc brakes, Traction-Lok differential and competition suspension complete the Boss 9 package. The sale of the car is accompanied by a build sheet, Deluxe Marti Report and shipping invoice.

The Mike Quinn Motorcycle Collection

Notorious in its own right, if not due to sheer volume alone, this extensive collection includes more than 100 Harley-Davidsons and a handful of other respected marques. Assembled over a period of more than 35 years of active collecting by one Michael Quinn, of Coos Bay, Ore., the grouping stems all the way back to his first purchase made in 1962.

Featured motorcycles from Quinn's lineup include a low-mileage 1920 Harley-Davidson J-L20T unrestored with original paint; a freshly restored 1947 Harley-Davidson FL with sidecar; and a 1956 Harley-Davidson KH and 1965 Harley-Davidson FLH, both low-mileage examples, unrestored wearing their original paint.
