STEVE DOHERTY WINS IN TC ALTIMA; KOZAROV NEARLY STUNS GTS FIELD IN A 370Z AT PIRELLI WORLD CHALLENGE IN UTAH• 2012 GT Academy Champ takes a win and a second in two races; Kozarov running second in 370Z NISMO maiden race in GT when car lost power with 5:00 left

TOOLE, Utah – The Skullcandy/Nissan team saw both ends of the racing pendulum at their home track (Miller Raceway Park) during the Pirelli World Challenge Finale Weekend sponsored by Nissan. Regardless of the results, it was a strong season finish for the Salt Lake City-based team.

In Touring Car (TC) class, Steve Doherty followed up his second place run on Friday with a dominating win in Sunday's finale, taking the lead at the start and then cruising to a 10.2-second win.

'I really wanted to win for the team. The guys worked incredibly hard all week. Most of them only got a few hours of sleep per night,' said the 2012 GT Academy champion after his second win and fifth podium of the season. 'I got a great start, had perfect position going into turn one, and then it was just a matter of focusing and opening up a gap before we hit lapped traffic. I had a well set up car today.'

Later Sunday, the Skullcandy Team almost pulled up the upset of the Pirelli World Challenge season, as team engineer and pro driver Vesko Kozarov worked his way up to second place in GTS driving the Skullcandy Nissan 370Z NISMO.

'Vesko noticed (race winner) Jack Baldwin's tires were going away a bit, and after laying back and cooling his brakes he had caught up within 0.4 second of him when the car lost power. It's a shame; we think it was electrical, but the car ran so well,' said team manager Lara Tallman. 'Vesko had very little sleep this week from working on the cars, and he just drove a brilliant race. He's one of the best out there.'

This was the Skullcandy 370Z NISMO's inaugural race weekend, but the car showed a lot of potential. In Friday's race, Kozarov set fourth fastest lap before the car developed fuel pickup problems. The team worked late Friday night to change fuel pumps and get the car to the second row on the grid for race two today.

The Pirelli World Challenge Finale sponsored by Nissan will are on NBC Sports Network on Sunday Sept. 28 at 2:30 p.m. ET.
