BRAILLE NAMED OFFICIAL BATTERY OF THE HSR SERIES

October 15, 2014 by HSR

Braille Battery announced today that it will be the official battery of the Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) series. HSR was formed in the mid-1970s with its first event at Road Atlanta. There was one goal then, and it remains true today: To celebrate the racecars from our past.

Braille is committed to bringing the latest lithium battery technology to these historic cars to help preserve these classics for years to come.

It is the goal of HSR to organize and promote competitive races, featuring historic sportscars. Its top priorities are safety and sportsmanship. Drivers, crew members, and spectators sharing a passion for vintage racing, thus creating memorable motorsports events.

Braille will bring modern battery technology to these classics using the latest lithium technology.

One of the most anticipated HSR events this year will be the Classic 24-Hour Race at Daytona. This inaugural event will bring competitors from all over the globe, with an expected car count of close to 140 cars. The Classic 24-Hour Race will be dedicated to cars that have raced in the Daytona endurance races of the past. Six period-correct race groups competing on a rotating schedule will take to the high-speed banks and race through the night in what is sure to be the pinnacle of historic racing.

'This event really struck a nerve internationally. We already have over 140 entries in the six race groups for the Classic 24, many from European teams. The latest is a Porsche 907/LH entered by Willi Kauhsen Motorsport to be driven by Le Mans winner Jurgen Barth,' says David Hinton HSR President.

Braille has a history at Daytona, as it was the site of the world's first 24-hour win for a Braille lithium battery. It will also pioneer the first Vintage 6V Lithium GU1R6 battery for use in the early cars using a 6v electrical system. This will replace the hazardous-flooded lead acid batteries that were used in the original racecars. Braille's latest 12v lithium battery technology will improve the performance and safety of all the Historic cars running in the field. Removing the original corrosive-flooded lead acid batteries will also help preserve these classics for years to come.

'I have always loved vintage racing, both as a driver and car builder, so it's exciting for me to bring the latest in lightweight lithium batteries used in current professional racecars around the world to the classic machines run in HSR,' says Gary Savage, Director of Motorsports & OEM at Braille Battery. 'Of course, our lithium batteries are extremely lightweight—most under 10 pounds—and provide quicker starting and improved engine management performance. With less horsepower draw from the alternator due to efficient charging, which is 5 times faster than lead, they last 3-5 times longer. They also don't self-discharge, so they can sit over the winter and still be at 95% state of charge to fire up the vehicle. With the power disconnect switch turned off, there is no need for a constant maintenance charger.
