• Mecum's Original, Largest and Best Muscle Car Auction Returns to Indiana State Fairgrounds

Dana Mecum's Original Spring Classic is Mecum's second-largest annual collector car auction, with the 2023 iteration achieving $113 million in total sales. This year's return to the Indiana State Fairgrounds for the event's 37th year will take place May 10-18 and will draw an estimated 3,000 vehicles while also featuring daily Road Art® selections, exhibitors, the Dodge Thrill Ride and, of course, the ceaseless high-energy Mecum auction action. Coverage will be broadcast and streamed live for a total of 24 hours on MotorTrend and Max and for two hours on Discovery Channel.

Consignments at this year's event will include American muscle cars, classics, Corvettes, trucks, exotics, Hot Rods and customs, as well as a selection of motorcycles and approximately 1,000 Road Art items. Among the vast lineup is the headlining Frank Micoli Collection, an Italian menagerie of 40 cars and 17 motorcycles, including nine Ferraris, four Alfa Romeos and four Fiats, plus a selection of Ducati, MV Agusta and other Italian-built motorcycles and 80-plus Road Art items. Featured among the Ferraris is a 2011 Ferrari 599 GTO powered by a 6.0L V-12 engine with just 5,067 kilometers on the odometer and a sleek Nero 2021 Ferrari 812 GTS that shows 60 kilometers on the odometer with a 6.5L V-12 engine. Among the 31 lots from the collection to be offered at no reserve are a Rangoon Red-over-red 1964 Ford Galaxie 500XL, a black-over-black 1965 Pontiac GTO Convertible and a 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Fastback that was purchased by Chrysler and purportedly used to aid in the development of the AAR Cuda and the Challenger T/A.

After rocking the top-sellers list at previous Mecum auctions, The Apex Collection is slated to make a return to the Mecum stage with 38 lots. The high-quality group the collection will send to Indy is headlined by a Wimbledon White-over-black 1965 Shelby GT350 Fastback that is one of 562 produced in 1965 and was initially used by Ford as a Public Relations car. The collection also includes an unmodified 1966 Shelby 427 Cobra Roadster that is the last of the initial order of 100 427 Cobras before 428 engines were installed. The Cobra, with just 18,066 miles since new, includes its original aluminum body, chassis, dual-quad 427 CI V-8 engine, Toploader 4-speed manual transmission and rear end.

The aptly named Black Corvette Collection will present seven 1960s models of 'America's Sports Car' all dressed in black and headlined by a 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible that's one of only two L79 convertibles produced in Tuxedo Black with a white interior and factory air conditioning. It's powered by a matching-numbers L79 327/350 HP V-8 engine with an M21 close-ratio 4-speed manual transmission.

Expanding on the Corvette theme with a focus on chronology, The Corvette Evolution Collection encompasses 34 Chevrolet Corvettes with available examples ranging from 1953 to 2003. The Bloomington Gold Certified and NCRS Regional Top Flight Award-winning 1964 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible is one of only 29 produced with the very rare J56 Special Sintered Metallic Brake Package, the leftover heavy-duty 'Z06-type' brakes from the previous year's Z06 package that was canceled after 1963. As such, it is one of very few convertibles ever built with these 'Z06-type' brakes. Also included in the collection is a Bloomington Gold Certified 1970 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Convertible that is one of only 25 Corvettes produced in 1970 with the ZR1 Special Purpose Engine Package. It's powered by a 350/370 HP LT1 V-8 engine with an M22 4-speed manual transmission.

Other noted collections include the nine-car Jason Dietsch Saleen Collection of Saleen-modified Fords, The Mark Bulaw Collection of three unrestored 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28s and an unrestored Vintage Legend Certified 1967 Pontiac GTO, and a selection of six Mustangs and Shelbys from the Select Vehicles from the Keystone Collection.

Other main attraction consignments include a 1989 Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary that is one of six painted in Giallo Fly, a 200-mile 2022 Lamborghini Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae Roadster that is one of 250 produced and one of two with a Miura paint scheme inspired by a 1972 Miura SV, and a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle LS6 Convertible sporting an extensive frame-off concours restoration to correct specs powered by its correct CRV-suffix 454/450 HP V-8 engine. Additionally, a 1957 Studebaker Golden Hawk Hardtop that's being offered by the original owner's grandson will also join the Indy lineup, as will a 2004 Porsche Carrera GT that is one of 41 produced in Basalt Black for the North American Market and one of 1,270 examples produced over a three-year-period.
