PIDGLEY SWITCHES TO TEAM PYRO FOR 2017 RENAULT UK CLIO CUP CAMPAIGN

December 14, 2016 by Renault Sport

PIDGLEY SWITCHES TO TEAM PYRO FOR 2017 RENAULT UK CLIO CUP CAMPAIGNOllie Pidgley (Salisbury) will return for a second season in the Renault UK Clio Cup in 2017 but with a different team – Team Pyro.

Pidgley raced for the Ciceley Motorsport squad in 2016's UK Clio Cup. However a move to Pyro takes him back to the team with which he made his car racing debut (in 2013's club-level Michelin Clio Series).

'I'm so happy to be back with Team Pyro for next season', commented the 19-year-old. 'It's where I started in cars in 2013, I was only 15 when I first tested with them – Pyro taught me how to drive. I get on with all of the boys really well, Mark Hunt runs an incredible team and I want to win for them.

He added: 'Pyro's track record is one of the best of any team in UK Clio Cup history – the number of titles they've won and the number of drivers they've produced who have gone on to race in touring cars is proof of that.

'There's a lot for me to build on from last season and I'm confident we can be as strong as Josh Price (six podiums including two wins) was with Pyro in 2016.'

Pidgley has already tested with Pyro on the new Michelin race tyre that the UK Clio Cup will use in 2017. Team Principal Hunt said: 'Ollie's a great young driver and definitely has the potential to be up there fighting for podiums on a consistent basis. We've done three days with him on the new Michelin tyres and everything went well. We'll be starting an intensive pre-season test programme in February.

'Ollie's our first confirmed driver for next season and he will have some very quick and experienced team-mates; we're just finalising those deals. He's got a great family behind him, they're all good people, and we're looking forward to helping Ollie deliver the performances we know he can.'

Renault Sport's UK Motorsport Championship Manager Will Fewkes added: 'We're very pleased to hear that Ollie will be back on the UK Clio Cup grid in 2017 – he started to show some very impressive pace in the second half of our 2016 season and it will be interesting to see how he develops as a driver under Pyro's tutelage in 2017.'
