Start Your Engines! The Houston Classic Weekend Gets Set To Open Its Doors To The World'S Fastest Cars And Stars.

Company press release.

Houston, Texas, April 29, 2013. Organizers of The Houston Classic Weekend are gearing up for one of the state's biggest celebrations of vintage motoring and getting set to open their doors to some of the world's fastest cars and stars. Visitors to the event, which runs from May 3-5, can look forward to a spectacular gathering of over 200 rare and exotic classic motorcars, sports cars, racers, and antique motorcycles, all assembled in the glorious lakeside setting of La Torretta Lake Resort & Spa in Montgomery, Texas. The Houston Classic Weekend is a chance to experience two great events in one unforgettable weekend. Worldwide Auctioneers' 12th annual catalogue sale, The Houston Classic Auction, is on Saturday, May 4, with over 100 of the world's finest and rarest motorcars lining up to go under the auction hammer. The Concours d'Elegance of Texas opens its doors on Sunday, May 5, a luxury car show that showcases some of the greatest cars on the planet, assembled together from collections around the country to be judged for appearance, originality and provenance.

Remarkable cars attract interesting owners, and consignments to this year's The Houston Classic Auction include a diminutive 1958 Messerschmitt microcar, once the property of motorcycle daredevil Evel Knievel. Current owner Richard Rawlings, star of the Discovery Channel's hit TV series Fast N' Loud, will be there for the weekend, helping to sell the car to the highest bidder. Also going under the hammer is a 1966 Shelby 427 Cobra CSX3264, formerly owned by Rod Stewart and Jan and Dean, and the very first purpose built American sports car, a 1950 Nash-Healey Roadster that was owned by renowned auto engineer and racing driver, Donald Healey himself. The Houston Classic Auction starts at 11am on Saturday, May 4 and runs for most of the day. Public admission is $20, with full details on schedules and consignments available at www.Worldwide-Auctioneers.com.

Celebrating the cars of legendary Texan auto designer and racing driver, Carroll Shelby, as one of its featured classes, the 2nd annual Concours d'Elegance of Texas will showcase some of his finest creations, including the only 427 big block DragonSnake Cobra ever built. Speed freaks will also get a chance to see the spectacular Ferrari 550 that broke the record for the infamous Cannonball Run, along with drivers, Dennis Collins and Fast N' Loud's Richard Rawlings, the duo responsible for racing it from New York to Los Angeles in an outrageous 31 hours and 59 minutes, beating the record set in 1979. Other one-of-a-kind cars on show at the Concours include a unique 1967 Shelby GT Convertible, the only big block GT convertible ever built by Shelby American Inc., originally assigned to Carroll Shelby himself, and a fantastic 1969 Ford GT40 lightweight, another rare car with extensive racing history. Among the pre-war cars on display is the only 1940 Packard Darrin Sport Sedan ever built and a 1929 Rolls-Royce Cabriolet de Ville, used by Franklin Mint in 1988 for their P1 model. Concours tickets are $20 each, available in advance by visiting www.ConcoursofTexas.org

The Concours d'Elegance of Texas is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit and is proud to support the Holy Angels Residential Facility, Montgomery County Emergency Assistance and the Collectors Foundation as its primary charities. Worldwide Auctioneers will also sell an outstanding 1960 Bentley during The Houston Classic Auction on May 4, kindly donated by local collector, Mr. Jack McClanahan. Proceeds from the sale will benefit local charity 'New Danville,' a self-sustaining, master-planned community for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as the Holy Angels Residential facility in Louisiana. In 2012, The Houston Classic Weekend in its entirety raised almost $1 million for charity.
