Mercedes-Benz Vans invests $150 million in the production of the next generation Sprinter in ArgentinaInvestment of $150 million for the production ramp-up of the next generation Sprinter at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Argentina.

Buenos Aires – Mercedes-Benz Vans invests $150 million in the production of the next generation of the large van Sprinter in Argentina. Yesterday, Volker Mornhinweg, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans, announced this investment in a personal meeting with Mauricio Macri, President of the Argentine Republic. Preparations for the production ramp-up at the plant in Argentina as well as other global Sprinter plants are already on-going. The roll-out of global production will start before the end of the decade. As part of the ramp-up and future production of the next generation Sprinter in Argentina, Mercedes-Benz Vans will create more than 500 additional jobs at the plant. Currently, Mercedes-Benz Vans employs approximately 2,300 in total in Argentina.

About Mercedes-Benz Vans in Argentina

The plant Centro Industrial Juan Manuel Fangio in the town of González Catán near Buenos Aires, which was founded in 1951, was the first Mercedes-Benz production site outside of Germany. Since 1996 Mercedes-Benz Argentina has produced in total around 290,000 Sprinter there. Since 2015 the mid-size van Vito also rolls off the assembly line. The plant additionally assembles bus chassis and trucks. The plant covers a surface of approx. two million square meters.

In 2016, Mercedes-Benz Vans established a new regional Competence Center in Buenos Aires to strengthen its marketing, sales and after sales organization in Central and South America. It enables an even stronger focus on the specific characteristics of the van business. Mercedes-Benz Vans is thereby even closer to customers and markets in Latin America.

Production will start this year at the Nissan plant in Barcelona, Spain. After that, production will also start at the Renault plant in Cordoba, Argentina.
