Spring into Spring Classic with La Gala Seca Charity Night Invigorated with a Lively Panel DiscussionMONTEREY, Calif., May 3, 2017 — Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca will kick off its 60th anniversary season May 19-21 with the inaugural Spring Classic vintage car race weekend. And while historic Formula One, Can-Am and Trans-Am cars will be headlining the racing activities, another event will be taking center stage Saturday evening, May 20.

Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is bringing back its charitable dinner – La Gala Seca – to celebrate the iconic facility's anniversary. Joining the festivities will be the Road Racing Drivers Club, which is comprised of many of the world's most successful racing drivers, leading industry professionals and journalists who have made significant contributions to the sport.

'It has been 15 years since the last La Gala Seca was held, and we felt this year is fitting to celebrate the spiritual home of sports car racing by bringing together motorsports and the Monterey community who have made Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca world renowned,' explained Gill Campbell, CEO and general manager of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. 'Guests will have a wonderful time and also raise funds through a silent auction to help support the Road Racing Drivers Club's Safe is Fast and Team USA Scholarship initiatives.'

The evening will be punctuated with a lively panel discussion of racing anecdotes and motorsports' role in the community. Panelists who will be sharing their stories are Doug Fehan of Corvette Racing, John Doonan with Mazda Motorsport, Ron Maydon of Masters Historic F1, Dan Davis of Victory Lane magazine, and legendary drivers John Morton and Howden Ganley. With this group, Blackhawk Museum's Executive Director Tim McGrane will have his hands full moderating the session.

A limited number of tickets for La Gala Seca are still available at $165 per person by contacting Ardelle@MazdaRaceway.com. The silent auction and wine reception hosted by Pruett Vineyards will begin the evening, followed by a delicious dinner that features Adobe Road Winery, and then culminating with the panel discussion.

The inaugural Spring Classic will feature some of the most popular vintage race cars in eight different groups in competition that will provide fans with pure enjoyment. They are 1967-1972 Formula B, 1973-1984 SCCA Production GT Cars, 1966-1972 Trans-Am, 1966-1974 Can-Am, 1973-1979 Formula Atlantic, 1966-1972 Trans-Am 2.5 Liter, 1983-2007 World Sports Car – Le Mans Prototype, 1979-2006 Historic Stock Cars, and 1967-1984 Formula 1.
