Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross Aims To Return To Victory Circle In Ottawa

After mixed fortunes in the season's first doubleheader, Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross drivers Scott Speed and Tanner Foust hope to win in Red Bull Global Rallycross's inaugural visit to Canada

Herndon, VA — The championship-leading Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team is looking to make its mark this weekend in the inaugural rounds of the Red Bull Global Rallycross championship north of the border in Ottawa, Canada.

Once again, the team's Beetle GRC cars proved fast at the series' last outing in Thompson, CT, earning three podium finishes over the doubleheader weekend. Foust, who handily won the weekend's first race, was on his way to another victory when a wheel broke in the final laps of race two, costing him a shot at victory. Scott Speed fought back on each day, claiming consecutive second-place finishes in some of the season's most exciting racing so far.

'I'm ready to get back on track here in Canada and try to make up for lost ground from the bad luck we had at the last race,' said Foust. 'If we can replicate that same sort of speed, I think we'll be in great shape for this race.'

In Canada, the Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team will race on a tight, .762-mile course on the grounds and runways of the Canada Aviation and Space Museum. The event is one of many celebrations of Canada's 150-year history taking place in the capital over this year.

'Canada has some of the biggest racing fans, so I'm really excited to get the chance to bring our awesome sport up here this summer,' said Speed. 'This season has produced some really great racing so far, and I'm glad we get to share that with a new audience in Ottawa.'

Speed currently sits atop the championship standings. With more strong results in the No. 41 ORAFOL Beetle GRC in Ottawa, he hopes to stretch his lead as the team heads into the second half of the 2017 season. Foust remains in second place, but knows that a few good results in the No. 34 Rockstar Energy Drink Beetle GRC this weekend could quickly close the gap to his teammate.

Both rounds of the Red Bull Global Rallycross doubleheader from Ottawa will air this weekend. Race 1 will be broadcast on NBC at 10:00PM (ET) on Saturday, June 17, and Race 2 will air LIVE on NBC at 4:00PM (ET) on Sunday, June 18.
