Big Cats Set To Purr At Barons' Jaguar Heritage SaleFurther entries are invited for Barons' annual Jaguar Heritage, Classic and Sports Cars sale at Kempton Park racecourse on Saturday, September 16th. Lots already consigned four different examples of the 3.8 Mk2, and a Series 2 E-type.

One of the most popular dates in the Barons calendar, the Jaguar Heritage sale is also a firm favourite with the Barons team as there are a number of Jaguar fans in the auction house, not least the directors Tony Cavell and Peter Gascoigne.

Tony was a well-known MKII racer and Jaguar race-car preparation specialist, and he and Peter restored '1628 VC', the only surviving 'works' Jaguar Mk II racing car. Driven by Roy Salvadori in the early 1960s, it was in a sad state when Peter discovered it in 1996, having been used for drag racing, with a 7-litre engine shoehorned under the bonnet. Peter and Tony restored the car to its former glory and original specification in time for Tiff Needell to drive it at the first Goodwood Revival in 1998. The car then went under the hammer at Barons' first-ever auction, just a week later.

With such expertise with regard to Jaguars, it's not surprising thatBarons consistently achieves strong results for this ever-popular at auction. Significant prices achieved over the past year include £81,400 for a very original and honest 1970 V12 E-type convertible, £67,100 for a 1968 E-type 1.5 FHC and £57,750 for another E-type, a 1973 Series 3 V12. Barons' Christmas 2016 sale saw a Series 1 'rolling restoration' E-type going for £45,650, a Mk2 240 selling for £23,100, an XJS Celebration for £18,975 and a 'like new' XK8 for £17,600. And earlier this year the Barons hammer fell on a 1954 Jaguar XK140 'barn find' for £16,775.

Barons' Auction Manager Tim Gascoigne explained the appeal of the 'big cats': 'Grace, space, pace was the marketing phrase that Jaguar used to use to sell their cars. It was true then, and is still true today. Most classic Jaguars offer a genuine mix of beauty, usability and performance, and this is what appeals to the classic enthusiast. Jaguar has produced some great cars over the years, with the E-type being widely regarded as the most beautiful car ever made. And of course they are British cars from a time when Britain made some of the best and most forward-thinking cars available, which really adds to the charm.'
