Mecum Auctions Announces Celebration Of The Legendary History Of HollywoodOver 2,000 Celebrity Items Set to Cross the Auction Block Live in Santa Monica, July 26-27, 2013

Walworth, WI - May 29, 2013 -- Mecum Auctions, the largest collector car auction house in the world, has announced its first celebrity themed memorabilia auction, a two-day extravaganza at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif., July 26-27, 2013. Mecum Celebrity Items Auction: Celebrating the Legendary History of Hollywood will see over 2,000 items up for bid including vintage Hollywood artifacts, music and pop culture memorabilia, and personal items from the legends in entertainment.

Highlights from items already consigned to the unprecedented Mecum Auction event include a pair of 1970s-style John Lennon prescription Swan glasses, a set (1 of 3) of Steve McQueen's Yucatan trunks, a Ringo Starr 'Power Ring' that was prominently displayed on the cover of his 1977 album Ringo the 4th, and the famous scathing letter written by Frank Sinatra to Chicago Tribune columnist, Mike Royko. The star-studded line-up from the Golden Years of Hollywood goes on and on with items associated with Elvis Presley, John Wayne, Marilyn Monroe, Jack Nicholson, Roy Rogers, Evel Knievel, Hunter S. Thompson, Jimmy Stewart, Burt Reynolds, Errol Flynn, Gene Kelly, and many more.

In addition to the hundreds of individual consignments, Mecum will present entire collections of celebrity flare. Among them will be an amazing 1,200-piece collection from John Hagner, curator of the Hollywood Stuntmen's Hall of Fame. Acquired over the course of nearly seven decades, Hagner's collection consists of remarkable memorabilia including the red handled leather-weave whip seen in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, the original 1943 Captain America cowl, a hood and cape from Spiderman pre-cursor the 1938 series The Spider's Web, and Yakima Canutt's stunt saddle. Hagner himself will be in attendance to represent and authenticate his collection.
