Hilton Head Island Motoring Festival & Concours D'Elegance To Showcase World-Class Collections

Company press release.

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The 2013 Hilton Head Island Motoring Festival & Concours d'Elegance will include major international names in automotive collecting and racing when the event returns for its 12th annual celebration Oct. 25 – Nov. 3. Among those names are renowned collectors Sam and Emily Mann and Jim Schmidt, selected, respectively, as this year's Pinnacle and Honored Collectors. Mann and Schmidt, along with their award-winning collections, will be featured in this year's Motoring Midway, Nov. 2 and 3, 2013 at the Port Royal Golf Club on Hilton Head Island.

'Building on the Featured Collector exhibit that was introduced in 2012, we wanted to recognize Sam and Emily Mann's contributions to the hobby and Jim Schmidt's personal, ongoing support of the Hilton Head Island Concours d'Elegance. With invitations accepted, we couldn't be more pleased with the two incredible collections we will be highlighting this year,' said Carolyn Vanagel, the Festival's President.

The Pinnacle Collector, a first-time feature at the Hilton Head Island Motoring Festival, will showcase the collection of Sam and Emily Mann of Englewood, N.J., one of only three collectors to have received four or more Best of Show titles at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. To celebrate their role at the 2013 Hilton Head Island Motoring Festival & Concours d'Elegance, their first time at the event, the Manns have chosen to showcase three of the four cars that were selected as Best of Show, including:

1934 Voisin Roadster

A one-of-a-kind, the car was designed and built by the coach builder Saliot in 1934 for the owner to compete in the Bois de Boulogoune Concours d'Elegance in Paris, which it won in 1935. Additionally, when exhibited by the Manns in 2002, the car took home the Best of Show title at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.

1937 Delage D8-120 Aerodynamic Coupe

A one-off creation designed by Georges Poulain for Louis Delage, the company founder, the car features a larger displacement engine and a special lower chassis, and was a precursor to the racing coupe of 1938. The car won Best of Show in 2005 at both the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance and the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance.

A one-off creation designed by the Parisian coach builder DeVillars, the car features a very unusual stylistic approach which serves as more of a design experiment than a study in aerodynamics. This car received Best of Show at the 1996 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.

The Honored Collector, recognized for continued support of the Hilton Head Island event, will feature Jim Schmidt of Ocala, FL. 'Jim Schmidt, an annual exhibitor, has been an ongoing supporter of our festival. We would not be where we are today without his support and that of only a handful of others like him who have been with us from the beginning,' said Paul Doerring, one of the Festival's founders and Chairman Emeritus. Jim Schmidt, as part of this honor, will be showcasing three cars to include:

1930 Lincoln Sport Phaeton

This is one of approximately 50 Type 176 Sport Phaetons built in 1930, the final year of the Model L. It sports an unusual factory-installed auxiliary rear windshield.

1957 Ford Thunderbird

Just over 200 of the F-code supercharged Thunderbirds were built, making them the rarest and most desirable of the 1955-1957 Thunderbird production range. Restoration of this low-mile 'Bird began in 2005 with Hill's Automotive in Racine, Ohio. It has been restored to 100 percent original specifications.

1970 Ford F-100 Explorer Sport Custom

When purchased, the F-100 had 11 original miles. The hubcaps had never been installed, still in their original boxes perched upon the seat inside the cab. The truck currently has 24 original miles, mostly from driving on and off show-fields. Every aspect of this truck is 100 percent original and un-restored, including the tires.
