Historic Aston Martin DB2/4 Prototype to join Worldwide Auctioneers exceptional Auburn line up.

August 21, 2008 by Worldwide Group

A unique 1953 Aston Martin DB2/4 3 Litre Coupe will be one of the exceptional hand -picked lots offered for sale at Worldwide Auctioneers inaugural Indiana event, The Auburn Auction. Once owned by King Hussein of Jordan,' this irreplaceable automobile combines unique coachwork, pedigree, performance and design in a wonderful package that is both beautifully restored and carefully preserved', said Rod Egan, Managing Partner and Chief Auctioneer.

Introduced at the London Motor Show in 1953, the DB2/4 was the second generation DB2, with occasional four seat interior. Built for Aston Martin's inspired Managing Director David Brown and registered in his name, this example was also a true prototype, used by the Aston Martin Experimental Department from 1953 through 1955 in development of the next generation DB2/4. In 1955 it was turned over to Aston Martin factory team racing driver, Peter Collins and its history with the driver is recounted in Chris Nixon's famous book, 'Mon Ami Mate'. Subsequently owned by King Hussein of Jordan and later forming part of the breathtaking Aston Martin collection of J.S. Draper, the car has been restored twice, most recently by Aston Martin in 1994/95. An impressive package of documentation from the Aston Martin factory and copies of the British registration document in King Hussein's name accompany it.

The DB2/4, one of the most important post-war Aston Martins, will join an exclusive line up at The Auburn Auction, which is limited to only 80 rare and significant motorcars. Included in the sale is the 'James Cagney Auburn V12 Salon Cabriolet', a stately 1933 Duesenberg SJ Boattail Speedster, rare 1959 Ferrari 410 SuperAmerica Series III SWB and perfect 1960 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster. The auction will be held in the grounds of Worldwide Auctioneers new US Headquarters in Auburn, Indiana, on Saturday August 30th at 6pm, as the town coincidentally plays host to the famous Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival, that same Labor Day Weekend.

General auction preview is on Friday August 29th from 10am-5pm, with VIP Reception that evening from 7pm-9pm. Full details on advance bidder registration and general admission can be obtained by visiting www.wwgauctions.com or calling 1-260-927-0000. Further information on consignments may be obtained from either Rod Egan or John Kruse on 1-260-927-0000, whilst media and sponsorship inquiries should be directed to Jo Snyder on 1-512 507 7867. The Auburn Auction expands a strategically located annual schedule which includes The Houston Classic Auction in May and The Hilton Head Sports & Classic Car Auction, due to be held this year on November 1st, in South Carolina.
