The MG TC's successor was the TD. Generally, a similar car, it was brought up-to-date with an independent coil front suspension. The wire wheels were replaced with discs, front and rear bumpers were made standard, and the body was widened for more interior comfort. At the time, many MG enthusiasts abhorred the move away from the more traditional appearance of the car which dated all the way back to the J-Type of 1933, but the car was nonetheless a logical improvement of a design that couldn't go on forever. The TD remained in production until the summer of 1953 when it would be replaced by another upgraded version of the car, the TF. Nearly 30,000 TDs were produced during the model run.
